Actually, Lesley Stahl had the hardest hitting story tonight (about the problems with the F-22 Raptor). To me she's still very watchable.

Sometimes I'll accidentally catch a few minutes of Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show.

I used to respect the guy.

Despite Anderson Cooper, it's one of the few news shows I can respect. Everything on the 24 hour news networks is 10% news, 90% some asshole's commentary.

I hate Lesley Stahl with a passion. I can't stand her, "Golly gee whiz!" attitude about everything. I do enjoy 60 minutes though. I must be getting old.

I like the geriatrics. But they are dying off fast this year, I hope Morley Safer keeps going strong.

Agreed. I find her interviews very lacking and without teeth. 60 minutes as a whole is still the best reporting on TV though.

Do they use use that ticking stopwatch thing? Do people relate to that? I doubt anyone born in the 80s has ever seen a mechanical stopwatch in real life.

You have to remember that the 80s babys were the last decade of kids that were around before the internet and cell phones and digital took over. To me those type of watches are like VHS, phones with cords, 2D video games, and cassettes.

Eh, don't care. I'm sure there are still people out there who look at fairly attractive yet fully-clothed news correspondents. I'm just not convinced that such horribly-uninformed and likely completely-stupids' peoples are worth considering.

It's 2012. There are much, much more attractive people at your fingertips. They are likely not clothed. I can't think of a single person who is above all others, yet can only be viewed clothed. Do mormons single-handledly fund PG-13 websites or something? Or do functionally retarded people compose more of the 98+% that I had assumed?

I'm not entirely convinced the F-22 is a flying widow-maker, but I do think they need more testing and possibly more work. For bringing the issue back to attention's center stage I would expect these pilots find themselves disciplined, but no discharge. It is too high profile now.

Well 60 Minutes is about the best mainstream American Media has to offer. Unfortunately it is the Letterman / Leno to the Daily Show / Colbert Report of the international media. By the time 60 minutes has a report it is no longer news.

More over the problems should be judged by as compared to those of fighters in the same place in their developmental lifecycle. That pandering to the sensational is the difference between information and gossip. The airforce may well take a longer term view and even welcome people talking down the F-22 so long as it doesn't lead to the abandoning of the program. Flying fighter planes has always been extremely dangerous, and it will be until humans aren't doing it anymore.

I could come up with a document that showed you were the fairy queen of the unicorns that couldn't be disproved.

Anyone could have made that document using a copy of the guys signature from any other document , a copier and some white out to get rid of the shadows.

It was typed on Microsoft Word for chrissakes.

And it's provenance is from a semi-nutcase who hated George Bush who says he got the document form some mysterious lady who's name he doesn't know.

And they RAN WITH IT!!!

If you are old enough, you'll remember that 60 Minutes did a similar piece about the F-16 back when it was first introduced. There were questions about engine reliability. The F-15 used the same engines, but two of them, instead of a single one, so it wasn't as much of a problem.

Ain't that the truth...I don't know the accreditation process to become annointed as a "news channel", but it doesn't seem to be much more than giving yourself a title. To be a news station, you should report nothing but news. In the very least, 51% of your airtime should be used to report events and facts. Saying one sentence to describe an event then taking 40 minutes to argue about how it doesn't fit your political affiliation makes you an opinion channel. Fox Opinion Channel. Cable Opinion Network.
Politics needs to be left conmpletely out of the news, with the exception of reporting how they vote.

The problem is that news has always been a money-loser. In the early days of TV they had news to satisfy the FCC's public-interest requirement and for the network's own prestige, not because it was economically productive. That's never changed. Years ago on a 20/20 special called "Hype," John Stossel looked at all the "Sharks are going to rape your daughter and shoot your dog! What that means for your weekend at 11" they do in TV news (and yes, he readily admitted that he was guilty of that himself). Then he showed a Chicago station that decided enough was enough and made a Joe Friday-type newscast, just the facts. It lasted for three months before it was canceled.

Having a news bureau with a bunch of reporters is a lot of work. It's much easier for the cable news channels to find some charismatic talking head and say, "Here's a bunch of money and a brass nameplate that says 'executive producer' on it. Now go get me ratings."

They were smart enough to get a US Rep involved, and picked one who will actually be able to argue from a position of knowledge since he's flown planes in the Air Force. Not fighter jets, but surely he still knows more about it than some random schmo in the House. Should be a help in keeping them from getting too much retaliation.

Just came in to show support for 60 minutes. Great program that has only gotten better over the years. They get stories nobody gets and many of their stories have directly affected legislature in a positive way (the insider trading in Washington being the most recent). I think the new additions are great. Lara Logan is smoking hot.

CBS Sunday Morning is still better. And it never misses a DVR recording because a football/basketball/other CBS sporting even ran way over.

/please don't do stories about 1920 actors that I could give a rip about
