rubi_con_man: flahorsegirl: Can one of you explain how a grown adult who is a sox fan could not understand this headline?

He obviously watches most of his games on the TV or radio, and not in the stands of Fenway, or he's not a big drinker.

Answer : They stop selling beer in the 7th inning, mostly to prevent over-drunkenness and to encourage people to get out of the park.

thank you for the answer.

Stadium Fenway Park, Boston, MA
Attendance 37,394 (101.2% full) - % is based on regular season capacity
Game Time 6:07
Weather 54 degrees, cloudy
Wind 10 mph
Umpires Home Plate - James Hoye, First Base - Jim Joyce, Second Base - Jim Reynolds, Third Base - Mike Estabrook

WTF?

Generally, this takes into account regular seating as well as luxury booths and standing room only tickets.

It's also a lie, since the Red Sox have been fudging their attendance numbers to maintain the sellout streak for years.

Beer at $3.75 would go a long way towards keeping the park well attended.

So would parking at $10, but we both know it's never going to happen.

1936, a Red Wings-Maroons hockey game went 6 OTs, for the equivalent of a 26.5-inning game. The MLB record is 25, in 1984, for a White Sox-Brewers game.

True enough. But you know, I never minded it when the product on the field matched the quality of the venue. I'd average only a couple/3 games a year, and the fee was just part of the expense. Now? I wouldn't cross the street to see them. Not because I hate Fenway... because I hate Fenway® Inc.

cup of tea: lack of warmth: I don't sign the card since, if stolen the perp could use the card without my ID if signed.

I work in retail, and this always confounded me...

What stops said perp from signing the back of the card?

Nothing. The signature really means nothing at all for most credit card transactions. My wife just puts a mark on the screen and hits ok. I leave the space blank because I would rather a cashier ID me. I hold up my ID before they ask. I just find it really stupid to refuse a transaction (less than $10) for not signing the space on the back of the card. The credit card company or bank won't refuse payment unless the customer reports the card stolen or unusually large transaction. Buying gift cards with a credit card are the only transactions my wife is required to ID for. The computer requires ID numbers to be punched in. Theives lately will buy a lot of gift cards before the credit card gets cancelled.

The one thing you can't take away from this ownership is the commitment they've shown to the park... it's the centerpiece of their entire brand. Yes it's small, yes the seats suck, yes the paint depth can be measured in inches... and yes, it is (or very recently was) the most expensive ticket in MLB. But it's Fenway Park, so who am I kidding... I'll buy the cheap tix, eat the dogs, spill the beers, boo the home team and generally party like it's 1981 while I breathe it all in.

But I am not singing Sweet Caroline.

Yeah, I'll start feeling sorry for them when they play hockey and lose 3+ pounds during a game like many goalies, instead of sitting around scratching themselves and eating sunflower seeds.

I traveled to South Korea in 2010 and wound up watching a professional baseball game in Busan that lasted 15 innings. Koreans don't stop selling beer after the 7th inning, the 8th, or even the 9th. They just keep selling it. F*ck yeah.

GAT_00: I didn't think you could reassign a DH in game.

The rule you're thinking of is once the DH is announced on the lineup card before the game, he must take one at bat.

Orioles (I think) in the 70's tried a tactic of announcing a lefty DH, and swapping him for a righty before his first at bat in the 1st or 2nd inning.

Once a DH is in, you can swap him for a position player. However, you cannot swap him BACK to DH.

Really? I've never had my ID checked, or the back of my card even LOOKED at at any retail establishment. Now that you can swipe it yourself, no one ever looks.

Except the Post Office for some reason- they're nuts about it.

But everywhere else... my wife often takes my card, with my name, and has zero issue.

That is a completely different thing. It is a) not competitive (not amature, let alone professional), and b) that is 100 innings of regulation in the same way that some amature leagues will have 7 innings regulation. To be comparable it would need to be nearly 300 innings.

To the farker who was talking about the Massachusetts ID and them not selling beer. That isn't just Fenway. You need to pay to get the Mass liquor ID (yes there are two separate Mass ID's, no it doesn't make sense). That is acceptable at the park. Try a different station or get a manager involved if they give you a hard time about that (but they shouldn't). A few years back when I lived in the state a friend who lost her license (a few months pre 21) had just the state ID after turning 21, and it worked in most places, but plenty would turn it down she had to pay the fee (it's cheap anyway) to get the Liquor ID.

Fark you. I wouldn't mind the removal of the Sox and Yankees and would like the removal of the DH. But the AL is a good league and the only one in my country.
