FTA: The Republican National Committee (RNC) used a call center based in the Philippines to hold a media conference attacking President Obama's economic record, the Chicago Sun-Times reported today.

Well, at least the Democrats have real Americans calling me for donations. Unless Indians can speak with a elderly New England accent asking for $750 off the top.

/No, my pockets aren't that deep.
//Also I don't respond to people calling me first, asking for credit card numbers to "donate" with.

I don't know how the Democrats got my number, but it pissed me off, as I'm registered as an Independent in Arizona. They were calling me every day in 2008 on my cell phone. They never asked for $750, though. Maybe they have our credit scores next to our phone numbers.

Did you perhaps piss somebody just before then? Giving out a person's cell number to telemarketers and politicians is a petty, childish, and very passive-aggressive method of revenge but damn if it isn't effective.

I completely concur with that statement. Too bad we don't have more companies who try to balance keeping workers on the payroll, even when times are bad. Seen varioius examples of such cool companies.

CSB

Tried to order Hustler from my cable company last month. For some strange reason, my internet order wasnt going through, so I had to manually call them (I also wanted to add HBO and Showtime). I call them, get some call center in India who I am having a problem understanding. It was a female, and that made me a bit uncomfortable asking a female to add an adult channel. Anyways, she kept on saying "Howard? Howard?". She didn't know what Hustler was. I had to spell the name out over the phone for her to add it.

This is really, really funny, in a sad sort of way.

I want to get a call from someone that speaks English 'off' while clearly reading from a script in a passionless voice. At least robotcalls are expected and can be hung up on without a second thought..

Is the problem that Democrats still have a conscience? I know that Republican play to win, but they seem to be walking over all kinds of lines.

I want to blame the tea party, but they are patsys there has to be more to it. They are just believers who did not know when to stop drinking the flavor-aid.

When did people like the Koch brothers purchase the Republican party in an attempted return to feutalism?

You guys missed the underlying point of the article and why Verizon was mentioned so much.

Verizon Wireless isn't a union shop while AT&T Mobility is. The CWA is the union that represents labor at AT&T, so the CWA making digs at Verizon is all about attacking a company that has avoided unionization.

Oh, and the wireless division of Verizon uses almost all US call centers, unlike AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. Customers hate talking to non-English speakers - why do you think Verizon adds hundreds of thousands of new customers each quarter? You don't piss them off by cutting corners. I would note that Verizon's call centers tend to be in lower cost parts of the country (Nebraska, Tennessee).

Um no. The point of the article had nothing to do with the specific carrier. It was that the GOP outsourced jobs to promote itself while attacking non-GOPers for not creating domestic jobs fast enough. That's either hypocritical or ironic or both.

There are still a few in NYC. The pay is barely above minimum wage. I saw an add for a call center on Craigslist that read, "Food-stamp recipients welcome." I did political polling for one a couple of years ago as a second job; it's the main reason I have so little faith in the accuracy of most polls.

You might get a giggle out of this...

My mom was an editorial researcher for a science magazine, and was always on the phone with various scientists (Linus Pauling once interrupted dinner) and one day she had to call one Dr. Riki Kobayashi.

Not the point, but we've all figured out that your reading comprehension skills aren't exactly up to snuff already.

Here is the situation:

GOP says "Look! Obama has driven all of the jobs overseas!"

They do this by contracting with a call center company.

This call center company is basing its call center OVERSEAS.

See, the Right ACTS like they're concerned about American jobs, but they have shown that it's nothing more than a convenient Talking Point. Otherwise, they would have made every effort to keep the Call Center in the US, employing US Citizens, when in fact, they don't give two shiats about anything, unless it benefits them directly, as in money in their pockets.

They also conveniently ignore how much of this happened on George Bush's watch, and they count on morons like you to eat that shiat up with a spoon. The Right likes 'em dumb, and if you were any dumber, they'd probably have you running things. Who knows? You might just get a call from them in the near future anyway, maybe the Moron King will retire...

Oh, I know they don't give a monkey's fart about what is legal, but Oregon can will fine them for every illegal call they make. And if it's a robocall instead of a live person, the fine is even larger. Currently the fine is $5,000 for every robocall they make, and that applies to both landlines and cell phones.

Companies like Verizon that have shipped call center operations overseas have contributed to the devastation of the U.S. based call center industry. While the industry still comprises approximately 3 percent of the overall U.S. workforce, the industry lost more than 500,000 jobs between 2006 and 2010, largely because of the off-shoring trend

Yep, there still are. The one that laid me off (and actually did replace me with two people from India. I know this as I trained them for a month to do my job (which was to write software to monitor the phone lines to see what people were doing on them)) still is in operation and advertises for more people all the time. They have to advertise all the time because the annual turn-over rate is near 100%.

Yeah, your probably right. He's not the worst troll on here, since he will at least make some kind of attempt at times to defend his positions. He just comes off as being as ignorant as the average working-poor Republican.

Maybe that's his thing. You'd think that if he would read a few things in the forums he's taking his time to post in, his ideals might change, but he seems only interested in defending his own position rather than attempting to see anyone else's. This is why he must be a troll - someone who actually believed the ideas he expresses would have grown tired of the constant attacks on his general presence and went somewhere else, like to an echo chamber at NRO or something.

Which is horseshiat, there are thousands of Americans who would love to work at call centers and the fact that call center workers can't speak English is an enormous problem.
