Nothing underhanded was suspected?

He was a healthy man. All he needed was a knee replacement.

NO.

I figured he was squashed by 2 lesbians going for the same ball.

Maybe his hero was John McSherry?

As an assistant coach of a high school softball team, I have to agree with the headline

How can you be bored on a softball field, what with all the persistent and witty chants the girls are shouting every thirty seconds.

/Softball, baseball umpire
//The softball chants start to sound like what EA Sports Madden games with teenage girls after about the second inning
///Had a coach ask me to toss him a couple years ago so he could go to the bus and "get the fark out of here"

csb:

I umpired softball and baseball for 7 years in high school/ college. The Head of Umpires once had a heart attack on the field (he recovered).

It's a really thankless, stressful job at times, but it paid more than any other job I could get at that age, I got to work outside, and it toughened me up a bit. I also learned a lot about people and the examples they set for kids, good and bad.

Why Would I Read the Article: Maybe his hero was John McSherry?

That's the first thing that came to my mind.. I remember watching it live when he took a couple of steps in front of home plate and clutched his chest and wend down like a stone..

My guess is that his brain exploded when he tried to keep track of the number of errors during an hit.

I once saw a girl get to 3rd on a strikeout & a series of throwing errors. Try getting all of that into your box score sheet.

I've seen the same thing happen in boys baseball (high school level), so come on down off the high horse there skippy...

/actually saw TWO runs score on a dropped 3rd strike, and one of them was the batter...

JV game, bottom 7th, 2 out, 0-2 count, bases loaded, visitors up by 2. Pitcher hits her hand on her leg during delivery and the ball starts bouncing towards the first base line. Batter just swings her bat (uncaught strike three) and takes off towards first (all the other runners were already moving). Winning run scores as she is in a run-down between first and second. When my partner yelled "Ball Game", an infielder was trying to chase her down, and an overthrow sailed into left field as we walked out the gate.

First off I rarely, if ever, skip.

Secondly I don't recall saying that girl's softball is inherently more error prone than boys baseball, though it is. Funny that with your enlightened world view you automatically went there though.

Honestly I don't know know why the gravitation to softball for the ladies. Most of the errors are throwing related. My large-ish sized hands I find a softball fairly awkward to grip and throw efficiently. I imagine it's much worse for your average high school girl.
