bunner: Mrtraveler01: bunner: We won't elect Ron Paul because we don't want honest or smart people in positions of power.

I see your point but I don't see what Ron Paul has to do with any of that.

Oh, and to address your inference with a bit of honesty, he's the only dog in the pack who isn't coasting on sketchy laurels or a complete tool shed. I didn't call these people, they're just the ones who showed up and filled out the forms.

Huh. I've never seen you say something stupid before. First for everything I guess.

During the previous French election 2 weeks ago the Euro fell amid speculation of Sarkozy's defeat. Since he has been defeated today, and since the Euro has already been falling across the board with all the other majors during the last few weeks, the market will probably have some really nice setups for multiple pairs to go short.

Wow. There is so much ignorance in that statement, I don't know where to start.

dahmers love zombie: So, French Farkers (or people who simply know more about politics than I do): Did Marine LePen's supporters not vote, or weren't they enough, or what? They sure as hell wouldn't have supported Hollande, right?

The far-right vote often splits down traditional left/right views. In England we have the far-right British National Party, but it is disaffected working-class Labour (left-wing) voters that they pick up when they are doing well, not disaffected Conservatives. Disaffected conservatives go the UK Independence Party.

France just has all one party for its jingoistic racist loons, so when that vote splits it goes both ways. Working class types who think what is best for them will be a socialist in power will have voted for Hollande, and those racists for whom low taxes/protecting their own personal wealth was top of the agenda will have voted for Sarkozy.

/all of the above may be bullshiat, but hey, I tried.

No he isn't. Nor does he portend to be. I like to think of him as the man who may be the progenitor of the "cut the f*cking horesh*t" party. We need one. There's a lot of ostensibly etched in stone bad ideas extant in the economic an political landscape and nobody else mentions this. That's hardly a lack of any grasp of economic principles, that's a very lucid grasp of the fact that if you're gong over a cliff, you don't argue about who didn't empty the ashtrays.

dumbobruni: and how would life under another Sarkozy presidency be any different?

Sarkozy wanted to stick with the German austerity plan. Hollande wants to tell Merkel where to shove the austerity plan and attempt to "grow" out of trouble by borrowing even more and spending it on an enlarged public sector. Seems like a pretty big difference to me.

Assuming France manages to borrow the money then in a little while they will be in the same condition as Greece and Spain and there will be no more ECB/IMF money left for bailouts

TBH, up here in Maine, it aint exactly a shiathole. This state is one of the safest states in the US. Violent crime is not a big issue up here.

Why is this? We are not a liberal state. We are a moderate state that does lean to the left, but no where close to anywhere near Mass. liberalism. Our standard of living for our homeless is higher than some children who live in Philadelphia.

Could it be cultural? I dont know. Could it be that we have more money? Well, no, in fact we receive more federal funds than we pay in. So why are we like this? Are we more armed up here? Well, we are above average, but that wont account fully for the lack of serious crime. What makes my state so special?

no, not really.

Despite fears that he will pursue a "dangerous" economic policy featuring a return to Keynesian tax-and-spend practices, Hollande and his campaign team have told the Germans that this has been ruled out. "We can't do Keynesianism twice in 10 years," Michel Sapin, the former finance minister who wrote Hollande's economic programme, told senior German diplomats, according to a confidential note obtained by the Guardian.

There are people killing babies?

Why are you wasting valuable time here?

You should call your local police station and inform then right away!

Ron Paul isn't any kind of libertarian, btw, he's a "state's right's" advocate who's overly cozy with racist RW elements, who wants to take away a woman's autonomy, feels uncomfortable with the Civil rights act allowing black folks to eat in public, who would perfectly happy to let the state's become inhumane authoritarian clusterfarks as long as the "right kind of people" are in charge.

His chats about withdrawing the military apparatus that backs up American economic hegemony are useful but beyond that I have little use for him or his nutty kid.
