Wow, this came out of nowhere. A concert that included 2 of what any reasonable person would put in their top 10 rock concert performances of all time:

1. Queen - Radio Ga Ga - Live Aid 1985

2. U2 - Bad - Live Aid 1985

Youtube is sucking worse than realplayer.

2012-05-06 03:24:57 PM
And they still put on one of the best live shows you'll ever see.

Entire bands on stage and no playback. Good old times.

/Queen's performance was better though

That's a world-class mullet right there.

He was just as much of a self-centered douchebag back then, as he is now. I do like their music from that era, I just can't stand them as people.

2012-05-06 05:07:05 PM
The cartoon at 8:15 was my favorite part.

2012-05-06 05:13:05 PM
I know they're from Ireland but did they have to film this with a potato?

I paused at the comma and thought it was about Apple store employees

You can see it, though. It's like prepretension.

Words fail me when it comes to describing that mullet. As a bonus The Edge had not yet discovered beanies.

The first thing that crossed my mind as soon as I saw the crowd packed in, shoulder-to-shoulder, across the full width of the pitch was that someone must have falsified the risk assessment on that bad boy.

Disaster waiting to happen, but hey, it was 1985. No-one gave a crap back then and the world was better for it

Sooooooo.........making a shiatload of money by making music that many people enjoy and then using it to promote causes that matter to you makes someone a self indulgent d-bag? Well fark you subby!

I'm gonna say it - the 360 Tour DVD that just came out is awesome.

2012-05-06 08:41:20 PM
I watched the first, I don't know, 4 minutes? Then I skipped ahead to find the part where the pyrotechnics and blast beats or whatever would kick in but all I saw was the song get somewhat louder, Bono goes in the crowd for a bit, then goes back on stage, and Edge was playing the exact same "riff" the entire time.

I'm not trying to snark, I swear - I don't get why this is a great performance. The only band member showing any energy is Bono, and even then it's not all that much.

Did I miss something?

2012-05-06 08:45:15 PM
Sorry, but after their first album, U2 decided to vigorously embrace mediocrity. Nothing they have done since can be called "great". It's a law of physics. Not my decision.

No, claiming Charles Manson took Helter Skelter away from the Beatles and that they were going to take it back in a 99 minute self-suck fest makes them self indulgent d-bags. Not to mention the whole weird Elvis grave scene.

Spinal Tap

Better quality, yes, but the idiotic uploader stretched a 4:3 clip to 16:9 for massive conversion fail.

Can't argue with either of those two.

And though I know some will call it blasphemy to utter this, I think there's a few moments from the Freddy Mercury tribute that I would consider candidates for a top ten.

Add to that GnR's Knockin' on Heaven's Door at The Ritz 1988. (probably their best show ever)

Yeah - hard to beat

Best part of the entire video: 8:14 in. Is that The Edge?

U2 sucks. And not because of their charity efforts or Bono or really anything other than the fact that their music has, does, will always blow.

Yep, I would add the GNR performance to my top 10. *fistbump*

There's a video of Bono's Dad singing this song somewhere. Bono didn't compare to his Dad at all. It was a heart wrenching version if you know what the song is about.

This 4-song EP has a live version of "Bad" that is easily in my personal top 5 music tracks. As far as U2 live tracks go, it's a better performance than this one, and better than "Sunday Bloody Sunday" at Red Rocks.

Subby needs to look up some Springsteen live performances.

When he started pulling chicks out of the crowd, I thought of the whole mass crushing forward to get a chance to be near that fantastic mullet.
