Oznog: wambu: Oh, the humanity . . .

/WTF does that mean exactly?

I wondered that myself. Merriam-Webster: "the quality or state of being human". How exactly does that describe the scene unfolding before you?? Very odd word choice.

Because that state was being erased for so many before his eyes.

I'm guessing the reporter was thinking of the lives being lost as he witnessed the event, as in all those people no longer (or in a very few seconds) having a quality or state of being human.

But frankly I'm more disappointed in the lack of huge mammary pix.

Big Ramifications: [i50.tinypic.com image 620x349]

I posted this KILLBOT dirigible story a coupla days ago on another thread. Saw some footage of this when I was really little and it game me nightmares for years.

No gore, plenty of bounce: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=cc3_1245817465

Chilling. You know those 2 guys are doomed.

/wonder how people in 1932 reacted seeing that in a newsreel
//human life was a lot cheaper then

I disagree. These days that many people can die in a car pileup on a foggy freeway and no one cries out about the loss of humanity.

Fallout Zone: Eau de Humanity is the best headline in Fark history.

Mancy!

Do people really think this meme originated with someone making a joke about the Hindenberg quote? Because that makes no sense. I coulda sworn this was started by an episode of the Simpsons with a sign in the zoo that said "Habitat for Huge Manatees" and then was just applied to the Hindenberg quote, but it just occured to me that I don't remember anyone ever referring to the Simpsons in one of these stupid threads.

There's no way this thing started with "Oh, the Huge Manatee" because by itself that's not even funny. It's just two silly words that sound kinda like another word.

The Mythbusters recreation was fascinating. It's unlikely there would have been a problem if it was just up to the 7 million cubic feet of hydrogen. It was the paint on the material which was about as close to thermite as you can get which was probably the bigger factor. I'm not saying the hydrogen didn't contribute, but someone should have tested the flammability of the painted fabric.

/amazed anyone survived.

Nem Wan: TV's Vinnie: Just lovely. Now that all of the Titanic passengers are dead one way or another, we're now gonna hound the Hindenburg passengers to their dying day too.

Brace yourselves, passengers of the Andrea Doria all the way up to Costa Concordia.

According to TFA, there is only one living Hindenberg passenger, Werner G. Doehner, who was 8 years old when he escaped with his mother and brother but lost his father and sister. He lives in Parachute, Colorado.

Seems appropriate, but when is it time to let go of the past?
