This?

/Really, though, the proper question is "Why would anyone cut a circular pizza into squares?"

ArcadianRefugee: Also, piling every topping (and then some) known to man doesn't make a superior dog; the dog makes the dog.

Use a crap dog and you'll need all those toppings to mask the poor (or lack of) flavor.

It's a hot dog, not a steak. Guess what? They all have topics to mask its lack of flavor.

Speaking of topics, if the hotdog is grilled---mustard, relish, onions (perhaps) are all one needs.

If i want cheese on a cracker I'll go to NY.

If i want a pizza I'll go to Chicago.

If i want a hot dog I'll go to Schriners in Phx, AZ.

Chicago pizza is fine for what it is, a cheese casserole. Otherwise, there's nothing particularly outstanding about the Chicago food scene.

I always thought it was because Fox News has spent the last four years incessantly using "Chicago-style" as a pejorative. I never thought any modern media conglomerate would burn a major city just because the president is black and used to live there, but here we are.

Sorry, but Chicago pizza (aka breaded lasagna) sucks; Chicago-style hot dogs suck (again, if you have to pile on ingredients to compensate, you're doing it wrong); Chicago baseball (aka The Cubs) sucks; and Chicago's "superstation" sucks.

The only thing Chicago beats New York is in the level of political corruptness.

2012-05-06 12:40:40 PM
1) It's a casserole, not a pizza. 2) I've had better hot dogs pretty much everywhere. 3) Beer snobbery is no reason to visit anywhere.

Any kind of snobbery makes things less enticing. However, the snobbery levels on the street are breathtakingly lower than on the internet.

There's a "next county over"?

I thought the whole premise behind "Chicagoland" (what a farking pretentious name) was that it extended from Milwaukee to Gary, IN.

/commenting on the pizza casserole and hot dog salad is redundant

Very little about Chicago has made me want to visit again for more than a few hours. Aside from a few friends that live there. Food and drinks are overpriced where I've gone, the museums I've been to, while cool, are also way expensive, and the traffic is horrendous.

Ok so I will have a layover in Chicago for a couple of hours and I want to try the best chicago pizza and best hot dogs. Anything else to experience on a small (very small) budget? Or is it like New York and you will break the bank just trying to get decent food?

I've never tried a chicago beer, any good ones near a subway line (or whatever it is call there)?

Milwaukee's probably one of the worst cities for black people in the country. Just sayin'

-Pizanno's Pizza
-Gold Coast Dogs
-Piece Pizza for beer - a little out of the way, though. Good pizza, too, but not Chicago style.

Both normally priced.

So when you ask for a non-Chicago hot dog you skip the bun and toppings and just suck it down?

Square pizza doesn't taste right. Also when I visit Canada occasionally why does every place put the toppings UNDER the cheese? That is farked up. The pepperoni stays soggy instead of getting that delicious slight crunch.

Man, the losers are thick in this thread.

We had one jackass from Milwaukee whining about Chicago? Lulz.

One moran said that the Chicago food scene wasn't all that special.

Alinea, Next, Girl and the Goat, Bangers and Lace, Purple Pig, and the list goes on and on and on.

Alright, I'll add a few things to sallys' suggestions. Off the Blue line you aren't too far from Hot Doug's which does a lot of exotic meat sausages but also a good, and cheap, Chicago style dog.

For pizza Piece is good but they are really a New Haven style pizza joint. For Chicago style you can go to Lou Malnati's which is off the same train stop as Piece.

For beer Piece brews their own and also carries some other craft stuff. I don't know if they carry other local brews. Revolution Brewing is right off the train as well. You can also go into a number of local bars and find local craft beers. This place is between the train and Hot Doug's and serves a few local beers. The food is pretty good but I wouldn't get pizza here. This place is a little ways from Lou Malnati's/Piece and serves a whole bunch of local beers.

I'll admit to having pretty catholic (l/c "c") tastes in pizza, beer, and hot dogs (except for the whole ketchup thing), so I can generally find food to enjoy wherever I am. What I really miss are the Italian Beef Sandwiches. For all you Farkers out there, is there anywhere in the Pacific Time Zone where I can find one???

Looks like there's 2 in CA. They definitely aren't my favorite for an Italian Beef but the beef and cheddar croissant is to die for.

Fear the Clam: Chicago is an awesome city.

/If you live in the midwest and don't know any better.

I've been to NYC. It smells like rotting garbage and stale piss, but it's a fun place to visit.

I've been to San Diego. If you're into shacks that cost $700,000, then more power to you.

Chicago's got a beautiful lakefront and plenty of things to do, without being nearly as expensive as a night out in NYC.

Lando Lincoln... "a beautiful lakefront"???

A five foot vertical drop along stained concrete is beautiful?
