Religions, like political ideologies, are flawed because their adherents are people.

And it's like I have always said: God did not create religion. Man created religion as a tool to rule his fellow man with fear.

The bible is bullshiat, the koran is a lie, the bagavad gita did not fall from the sky.

These are the books, that were written by men, they cause wars, now follow if you can.

WTFDYW: The granddaughter, Brittany Koper, and her husband have been fired by the network, which accused them of stealing $1.3 million to buy real estate and cars and make family loans. "They're just trying to divert attention from their own crimes," said Colby May, a lawyer representing TBN. Janice and Paul Crouch declined requests for interviews.

Huh. Kinda telling, isn't it?

That would be poignant, if Mohandas Gandhi were Hindu. However, he wasn't. Influenced, yes, and he's had an influence on main stream Hinduism. However, what you're talking about there is akin to the difference between main stream Muslims/Christians and extremists, as well as reactionary "tit for tat" fights, i.e. Israeli people attacking people in Gaza and vice versa.

SphericalTime: Nope. No shock. It's the prosperity gospel, which is already about as far as you can get from Christianity anyway.

These people were always evil scam artists.

If these thieves aren't aligning themselves with Christianity, with which religion ARE they aligning themselves? It sure as hell isn't Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhist or any other major/minor religious sect. Somebody randomly waving these crooks off as "not part of Christianity" with zero explanation as to why is lame. I would bet every nickel ever given to all of these televangelists that the Bakker's, Crouch's and their ilk would answer "Christian - what else is there?" when asked their religion. Further, I would double down that the same morons who gave money to those crooks would also self-identify as Christians, and would tag the televangelists with that same label. Which holy book, which savior and which god all align with Christianity? The same ones the televangelists push each and every day. Walks like a duck, talks like a duck...

The "true" Christians (whatever that might be) that really do have their hearts in the right place and aren't about huckstering people out of money should do what the mob bosses do when somebody gets out of line. Make 'em disappear.

[www.topsecretlabs.com image 640x480]

Christ, at least my Grandma and Mom got their bottles of Holy Water for free (you provide the bottle).

For all the issues I had with my Catholic church growing up (not the archdiocese, that's a whole 'nother story) even stupid stuff like what new (badly needed) chairs we should pick got thrown up for a anonymous vote, with the cost of each listed. The rectory hadn't had anything done but a new roof in the 18 years I was there. Etc.

I understand the whole voting to protect the interests of the rich even though you aren't. I think it's stupid as hell but I understand the warped logic. And I can imagine plenty of true believers are perfectly fine with this - after all, according to the prosperity Gospel, you're supposed to embrace the awesome money that God has given you. And if you haven't gotten it yet? You aren't believing hard enough, dammit.

I was impressed with just how damn blatantly they flaunted it, though. Christ. That was pathetically ostentatious even for a church whose whole damn raison d'etre is "God Will Get You Rich".

One of my favorites (and one that many seem to either forget or ignore completely):

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Mk. 4.24

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Just one *teensy* little problem with that logic: if we don't judge one another based on merit, nothing would ever get done and we wouldn't be on fark. It takes the collective criticism of one another and more importantly the judgment of ONESELF to improve upon the world. I judge people as I judge myself, and more importantly hold myself to a higher standard than I do others around me.

If it's wrong, how by saying so, am I being in some way heretical?

Lights, camera, silence on the set Tape rolling, 3, 2, 1, action
Welcome to the Church of Suicidal
We'll have a sermon and a wonderful recital
But before we go on there's something I must mention
An important message I must bring to your attention
I was in meditation and prayer last night
I was awakened by a shining bright light
Overhead a glorious spirit He gave me a message and you all need to hear it
"Send me your money," that's what he said He said to "Send me your money"
Now if you can only send a dollar or two There ain't a hell of a lot I can do for you
But if you want to see heaven's door Make out a check for five hundred or more
"Send me your money"
Do you hear what I said?
"Send me your money"
Now give me some bass, umm, yeah, that's how he likes it
Now give me some silence, for all you sinners
Now give me some bass, yea that was funky
Now take them on home Brother Clark, send me your money
Here comes another con hiding behind a collar
His only god is the almighty dollar
He ain't no prophet, he ain't healer
He's just a two bit goddamn money stealer
Send me your money
Send it, you got to send it
Send me your money
You hear what I'm saying? "Send it, send it Send me your money"
How much you give is your own choice
But to me it is the difference between a Porsche and a Rolls Royce
I want you to make it hurt when you dig into your pocket 'Cause it makes me feel so good to watch my profits rocket
Send me your money
Now dig in deep, dig real deep into your pocket I want you to make it hurt, we'll take cash, we'll take checks We'll take credit cards, we'll take jewelry We'll take your momma's dentures if they got gold in them
So whose gonna be the next king of the fakers Whose gonna take the place of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker? See my momma, she didn't raise no fool 'Cause you can't put a price on a miracle
Amen

hasty ambush: Churches have always engaged in politics it is hard to completely separate the two. Would you have revoked the tax exempt status of the churches involved in the abolitionist movement in the 1800s? How about Churches involved in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s and 1970s. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is political; would you revoke the tax exempt status of its member churches? What about the Quakers and their anti-war activity? Or are you just opposed to the engaging in political activity you disagree with?

As I see it we have to take the good with the bad instead of presenting government with an opportunity to restrict religious activity and define acceptable political behavior by means of taxation..

No... I'm pretty sure all of us here are okay with any and all churches having to pay taxes. The Churches in support of the Civil War, or Civil Rights, weren't in it for the money.

Yes, I'd take away all their tax-exempt statuses. Every single one, even the ones I agree with. No exceptions, no free passes. Everyone pays their fair share.

Hell, I'd even tax the Red Cross and other charities on the portion of their income that doesn't go directly to people in need. The stuff that actually goes to benefit people shouldn't be taxed, but should still be scrutinized for fraud and nepotism/cronyism. Buying food at 500% of market price from your brother-in-law or golf buddy and feeding it to the poor isn't "charity".

You have a good point, but salaries of paid non-profit workers are still taxed, which is where the vast majority of donations not used directly for helping others go.

Salaries of ministers are not taxed, which is exactly why so many charlatans used it as a vehicle to quick cash.

Said it before and I will say it AGAIN-

The prosperity "gospel" has a very nasty flip side.

If you believe that you are rich or at least well off because God has blessed you in return for your choosing to live a moral life based on Christian values, then anyone who is poor is poor because of their choice to live a life devoid of those values.

Translated- if you are poor it's your own damn fault for not being religious enough. Government shouldn't waste money trying to help you because if you would only accept the Word of God you would then become rich.

///Never mind all the secret scams we have going on the side: exposing them is against God's will.

ISpeakBlob: Tax churches now. Tax the fark out of them.

Interesting (and heretical) note -

Everyone, and I mean everyone will tell you Jesus said pay your taxes based on His reply to the inquisition set up to trap Him by the Sanhedrin. (Mark 12:16)

"Render Unto Caesar what is Caesar and what is God's unto God."

But to pervert that into divine admonition to pay taxes is to corrupt the entirety of the Old Testament. Wherein God instructed the children of Israel how to deal with any ruler that dared to make them kneel before earthly authority. Answer? Slay that ruler and all he represents.

Those who pervert the answer Jesus leveled at the Sanhedrin ignore (or) are intellectually ignorant (or) purposeful in corrupting nearly the entire context of the Old Testament. God instructed the Israelite people they were to destroy anyone who dared occupy His land (Israel), and occupy His people. The Old Testament is chock full of instances where when they met their foes face to face God indeed went before them and fought their battles for them - who can forget Gideon and his band of 300 up on a ridge with nothing but a lamp and a horn staring down at a valley full of Philistines armed to the teeth and itching for Jewish rape and blood? Yet because they acted on His Promise, despite what the odds looked like, in the end, all the Philistines were dead and God was victorious in their behalf.

So, the son of God, in fulfillment of over 300 prophecies through 2,000 years is going to suddenly reverse everything the Divine had instructed these peculiar people and now tell them that to pay the tax is lawful?

Bullshiat to the nth power.

Tax = tribute
Tribute = bending the knee to a superior power

The Sanhedrin attempted to destroy this upstart problem named Jesus by giving him a Yes or No conundrum.

Yes ... to paying the tribute ... and they had him for agreeing that Israel should bend the knee to the foreign power Rome and the Emperor Tiberius who proclaimed himself a god, and thus could destroy Jesus by the laws of Moses and the Sanhedrin and all I just outlined that God had told His people.

No .... to paying the tribute ... and they could hand him over to the Roman governor of Palestine (Israel) for advocating rebellion against Rome's self-proclaimed authority over these people and land and denying the god-Emperor his right to rule.

They had Him either way.

Instead Jesus answered, "whose inscription is this?"

"Casear's"

"Then render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God, what is God's."

And drove the Sanhedrin to madness with this one seemingly innocuous answer.

Why?

Because He reminded them of their responsibilities as the religious rulers of Israel.

Which were ...

To slaughter out of hand any ruler who dared attempt to make Israel bend the knee to any but the one true God of Israel. And that any who should attempt to take Israel down a course of action that would lead Israel to recognize any foreign ruler should be brought before the Temple and be stoned to death.

What Jesus said in one simple statement is - "You know what to do. Go kill Tiberius and lay waste to the Roman empire. Render unto Caesar what is his. Death. God will go before you and destroy your enemies as you act in the faith of your fathers. Then, when you have done that, come back here, to His Temple and render unto God what is God's ... that you be stoned to death for daring to lead the children of Israel astray by accommodating Rome, making deals with her and allowing her to rule My Land!"

They were convicted in one sentence.

Of course they had to kill this man and as soon as possible.

What does this have to do with the Crouches?

Taxation.

A cancer no church had to deal with until the establishment of the Federal Reserve system of privately issued non-US Treasury scrip masquerading as our lawful money. It wasn't until our non-interest bearing original currency was displaced by an interest bearing foreign currency that this issue was in question. No church paid taxes because there wasn't a tax to be paid.

A 501(c)3 tax status means that "church" has appealed to a government for relief from it's taxes. A 501(c)3 "church" means they recognize an earthly power that has dominion over not only their affairs but ultimately what they may do in the name of the Gospel of Christ. [The Johnson Amendment of 1954, House Resolution 235]

America's own Revolution was fiercely, hotly preached from pulpits throughout the colonies. However after the creation of taxation to pay for using Federal Reserve notes, taxes were laid on anything that produced "income". A side outcome of that was Lyndon Baines Johnson 501(c)3 churches - meaning government-approved churches - may not speak out against or in defense of political matters. This is possible only when that "church" agrees to bend the knee to another. In seeking relief from taxation they have acknowledged a power higher than God rules them and to abide by the rules that this tax-relief binds them to.

Thus we know, Biblically what heinous filth these Crouches are ... in God's eyes.

It's not just a question of taxes, it's a question of authorities.

To first acknowledge the power of another in His Name, then seek relief from their tribute in His Name and then scam, steal and corrupt in His Name .... my mind boggles at the depth of their sins payable unto Him.

Midnight Rambler: My gut reaction to these things is to let fools and their money be parted. But the fact is that the people who watch, listen, believe, and send their only few dollars to these hucksters are vulnerable. In blunt terms, they're vulnerable because they're stupid. They truly don't know any better. The sad thing is, nothing can be done to prevent that.

What we can do is remove the tax-exempt status on religious organizations, or at the very least place a cap on the amount that can be exempted. Our tax code is allowing you and I to be played for suckers.

RIligiousvillle (margaritaville) - Jimmy Buffet

Tithed all of my fees
TO much time down on my knees
And God still hasn't gave me a call
No prayers have been answered
An soon I surrender
To the belief that he's not there at all

Wasting my time away in religiousville
Trying to find something that is not
Some people claim that what they do is in his name
All I know
Is it's not bad at all

Was watching the TV
The preacher done told me
I had to give to him to help save my soul
He's living the high life
While cheating on his wife
I think this whole thing is out of control

Wasting my time away in religiousville
Trying to find something that is not
Some people claim that what they do is in his name
All I know
I am nobody's fool

Watch all the fanatics
They all think they are correct
Everyone else will be rotting in hell
Someday they'll come to their senses
And drop their defenses
Realize God does love us all

Wasting my time away in religiousville
Trying to find something that is not
Some people claim that what they do is in his name
All I know
Is it's not bad at all

Yes some people claim
What they do is in his name
But I know
That it all is a joke

Telling me what is right
He tells me of the savior
And the gifts I receive
If I follow his words
It's the only way to believe

Welcome to the Hotel I'm going to save you
From life's little lies, I have alibis
Plenty of room at the hotel I'm going to save you
Yes I know there's strife, don't forget to tithe

Some speak in tongues
We also have programs to
Indoctrinate little ones
Don't worry bout our leaders
They really are the best
Even though allot of them
Have been arrested for illegal sex

Welcome to the Hotel I'm going to save you
From life's little lies, I have alibis
Plenty of room at the hotel I'm going to save you
Yes I know there's strife, don't forget to tithe

And mansions on the hill
While most of the parishioners
Are living on beans and swill
Relax say the preachers we are programmed to receive
Now that we have got your mind, you can never leave

Welcome to the Hotel I'm going to save you
From life's little lies, I have alibis
Plenty of room at the hotel I'm going to save you
Yes I know there's strife, don't forget to tithe

Plenty of room at the hotel I'm going to save you
See it everyday, my ways the only way

Huh, Fark seems to have eaten my post so lets try this again. . .

As long as we're posting lyrics and videos of songs critical of evangelists,

Holy Smoke by Iron Maiden

Believe in me - send no money
I died on the cross, that ain't funny
But my so-called friends they're making me a joke
They missed out what I said like I never spoke
They choose what they want to hear - don't tell a lie
They just leave out the truth as they're watching you die
Saving your souls by taking your money
Flies around shiat, bees around honey

Holy smoke, holy smoke
Plenty bad preachers for the Devil to stoke
Feed them in feet first this is no joke
This is thirsty work making holy smoke yeah
Making holy smoke

Jimmy Reptile and all his friends
Say they going to be with you at the end
Burning records, burning books
Holy soldiers, Nazi looks
Crocodile smiles just wait a while
Till the TV Queen gets her make-up clean
I've lived in filth, I've lived in sin
And I still smell cleaner than the shiat you're in

Holy smoke, holy smoke
There's plenty bad preachers for the Devil to stoke
Feed them in feet first this is no joke
This is thirsty work making holy smoke yeah

Holy smoke - smells good

They ain't religious but they ain't no fools
When Noah built his Cadillac it was cool
Two by two they're still going down
And the satellite circus just left town
I think they're strange and when they're dead
They can have a Lincoln for their bed
Friend of the President trick of the tail
Now they ain't got a prayer 100 years in jail

Holy smoke, holy smoke
Plenty bad preachers for the Devil to stoke
Feed them in feet first this is no joke
This is thirsty work making holy smoke

Holy smoke

hubiestubert: I am shocked. Shocked and appalled.

Next thing, they'll discover that the modern Nichiren are bilking Buddhists...

/which they are
//early and often
///f*cking Nichiren

Holy crap was I shocked to learn about the Nichiren. One of them lives in my very small town in Wyoming. Being a student of the classical Japanese martial arts and amateur student of spiritual studies, I thought that I was going to have an interesting discussion about Buddhist spirituality. It was exactly like a discussion with my step-mother, who is a whackadoodle Baptist of the worst stripe.

Those people are farking evil. I never met a practicing Buddhist that I didn't like, until that day.

My company just sent me a new girl a month ago to train. She is very nice a tad absent minded but all and all a good person, a little naive . Since she started work she was having car problems and her sister was giving her rides to work. I knew she was religious but I really didnt know how much until I found out she went to Liberty university and when I gave her her first check to her I said "Hey looks like you can get your car fixed now huh?" she told me "No, I have to give all this to God." I was dumbfounded. She told me God would provide for her.

We need to take these prosperity gospel bastards, and have them lined up against a wall and shot.

Some old country song has the line "They tell you 'send your money to God', but they give you their address." I think it was Hank Jr., but Google comes up empty.
