A lot of talk about racists & racism these days... When will the cry babies realize it isn't about one's skin color.

It is about their content of character.

As MLK said, "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

And I judge by content of character.

Alleyoop: Why does the article show a white baby as racist? Why not a baby Malik Zulu Shabazz? Maybe the baby's thought bubble could show a black fist held up in the air holding a billy-club in front of a polling station. How about a baby Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson strolling away and whistling while a black mob beats Whitey?

Because it is ok to show whites as racist. It fits the propaganda of brain washing more whites into white guilt.

It is never ok to show blacks as racist... because, you know... they don't exist!

Huh. And to think I was going to go with: "because this article is reaching very, very badly in order to make ANY connection between babies of any race and racism in the first place."

Some research related to the "honor culture" concept suggests proclivities towards violence are related to ancestry in people groups that herd animals, as opposed to cultivate agriculture.

The idea is that one's own social standing is much more precarious in herding cultures than in agricultural ones - since a herd of goats is a less stable asset than an arable field. So the honor focus becomes a preoccupation, as people defending their status/reputation.

The link to Southerners is largely through the Scots Irish, which is a dominant ancestry of the white South. Also interesting to speculate on other herding cultures.

Why are you automatically assuming the baby has a white family? You know, he might have been adopted by a black family. Cuz you know, they do that all the time.

Did... Did she suggest that TV is causing 9 month olds to be racist? Who is putting these babies in front of Oz or the Wire? I'm certain there isn't racism in teletubbies, or whatever the kids are watching as babies. Also, I assume that they tested Asian babies, and black babies, who, if TV was the cause, would show the same biases against the same races as the white babies (presumably against black people)

You may want to revisit this idea after you learn the difference between "race" and "species."

Ought to be criminal? It is. Laws are selectively enforced. Some people are more equal than others. Just ask Eric Holder.

Babies prefer faces most like their parents'.

Washing your hands can prevent the spread of disease. Gosh, I wonder if anyone ever told Mary Mallon that.

College kids are broke. Imagine that.

Southern culture traditionally emphasizes personal honor. So dueling pistols have nothing to do with dueling banjos? I may need to lie down for a few minutes.

Oh for fark's sake; they aren't racist. Children at that age begin to prefer adult faces that look like their caregivers as a survival and safety mechanism. When my youngest was an infant up until he was 2, we rented a room to a black lady and her son, so he grew up being held and coddled by her. To this day, he LOVES black women. The first day of daycare, he made a beeline for the big black lady teacher and cuddled right into her.

This is just stupid. I've seen this claim made in a few articles, citing it as fact. Just because "a scientist" says something doesn't mean they're a good scientist. There ARE some quack scientists out there, as well as 'scientists' hired by public or private interests who are willing to unethically try to 'prove' whatever they're boss is hiring them to 'prove'. . . for example, the 'scientists' who were hired by tobacco companies to 'prove' that there was no link to cancer from a life long smoking habit.

Racism is not inherent in human beings, it is instilled by society. In fact, the biggest problem perpetuating racism today isn't even "hate groups" or the racists themselves, but people who literally inject race into every socio-political discussion or debate. Whilst I think a majority of people have moved on from judging people based on skin pigmentation, these race-baiters see their meal ticket slowly going away. They MUST keep the racism alive, or they might actually have to get a real job. . . so it's race race race, all day long. . . If you don't support this politician, you are a racist. If you don't align with this economic school of thought, you are a racist.

Personally, I'm getting sick of all of that. It's gotten so circus like that it is borderline mockery of what the REAL civil rights movement was about, when racial hatred was actually a serious issue. We, as a society, won that battle, so now it's time to move on and tackle other pressing issues of the day.

My two cents.

Martin Luther King would be called a racist by the modern left for not talking about race all day long and using the carcass of the former civl rights movement for every socio-political agenda the opportunist race-baiter wants to bludgeon people into believing.

The "New Left" does more to incite racial division, and actually reverse the decline in racism, because . . . after all. . . if your business model is to get stinking rich off of the pain and suffering of others, you can no longer keep the gravy train rolling in once the pain and suffering ceases. If there is no racism, what would Jesse Jackson do for a living? It's a shame to see the new left turn what was a really serious issue in society when it was still a big problem, into a three ring circus.

oh, okay, I see. Well, the white baby is shown as the example baby because it's the modal representative of "baby" in our society. White people are the majority of the readers of the website, so of course to use an example baby, they choose a white baby. It's like if you wanted to show an example of a dog -- would you pick out a rare dog that doesn't look familiar, or would you pick a labrador or something like that?

I recognize that there's a tendency to view stereotyping and discrimination as a strictly white-on-black phenomenon, but rest assured that no scientist I've ever met who studies stereotyping and prejudice (and that's a fair number, upward of 100) would ever claim that black people aren't capable of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Remember that just because the popular press always pitches things in one way doesn't mean that the science behind those things is biased in the same way as the reporters.

Men decide what is and isn't a "species". Labradors and Pit Bulls are the same species but you'd have a hard time convincing most people that they are the same thing or that their differences are only exterior.

No one in my family or myself has referred to certain races as monkeys and no one speaks down about any race. I don't know if she has heard this from crèche but I hope not.

Couple years back, a friend of mine (living up New England) was grocery shopping with her kids. Her then-five-year-old sees a package of Uncle Ben's and asks if it the guy on it was Obama.

She didn't find this nearly as funny as I do.

Years back, my neighbor's 4 year old thought I was Ozzie Smith. I was 12.

Once when I was browsing in the aisle of a supermarket I was also temporarily trapped because two shopping carts were parked next to each other, blocking the aisle. But before I could ask either woman to move their cart (both were facing away, looking at the shelves) I noticed the baby/child in each baby seat. I don't have kids, so I can't accurately estimate the age of the kids; they were old enough to sit up in the baby seats but neither could really articulate words, they just babbled. Anyway, one kid was black and one was white and they looked at each other for a moment and then started babbling gibberish and each almost simultaneously reached toward the other and started touching their hair. They giggled and touched and then babbled and touched again. But they started leaning so far I thought one or both might topple out of the buggy so I cleared my throat and said loudly in a concerned tone: "Careful there, don't fall over!" Both women immediately spun around and attended to their kids. As I said, I don't have kids so I don't know if it's normal for two children of that age to meet for the first time and "introduce themselves" by touching, or was it because each baby had never been that close to one of a different race before?

Further down in TFA:

'The South is aggressive. Previous research has proven that there is a (surprise!) North-South divide in "honor ideology," which demands that men be tough and courageous and respond with aggression when those qualities are called into question. But, research has now proven just how much more aggressive the South is than its neighbors up north. Researchers found high levels of honor ideology corresponded to high levels of aggression. "For instance, one high scorer on the honor scale suggested that the only way to deal with radical Muslims is to use nuclear force, paying no mind to collateral damage," explains researcher Collin Barnes. Protecting honor is apparently worth nuclear warfare. [Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin]'

Is it just possible that a lot of Southerners aren't very bright to begin with?
