I think ol' Wolfie would have gotten a kick out of it.

If there wasn't a backing track with the symphony playing to provide the melody, this would just sound like nothing at all.

Here -- if you want to hear it without some guy banging away over the top of it.

Clicky

If Mozart were alive today he'd be far too busy working with Yngwie to see it.

2012-05-05 05:21:59 PM
He would say, "why did you add all that percussion to a piece that doesn't need that much percussion. Also, can you get me some absinthe?"

Indeed.

"C"

Wolfie was the punk rocker of his day.

Pretty cool. But, I think I'll stick with the original.

I thought it was a pretty decent video. Guy's not a bad drummer at all.
I prefer this for my death metal classical (pops)

John Rutsey played better...

That - was a craptastic tuning of the drums. I'm a drummer and still I'd have to vote 'B'.

Wow! Astonishingly good.
Bravo!

d) he'd giggle in addition to any of the prior predicaments even long after his own ears started bleeding violently

If music had been like that in the 18th century Mozart would have become an architect.

Some pretty good chops there.. but overall, meh.

2012-05-05 09:08:27 PM
Sort of a "Mach" piece.

Mozart died before Beethoven lost his hearing, but if he were alive today then he'd know about it I guess.

Sloppy.

milowitz: Get all the shiat off your drum heads!

This. I absolutely hate it when guys put tape and shiat all over their heads. Drums are suppose to sing, not sound like cardboard. It'd sound a lot better if he'd just learn to tune his drums.

It's a good thing the actual piece was dubbed into the background to make it sound like a 40 piece orchestra was falling down every flight of stairs in the empire state building. Otherwise it would have just sounded like a 20 piece drum set falling down every flight of stairs in the empire state building...

2012-05-05 11:12:43 PM
I think the word awful isn't a strong enough word to describe that, how about - abominable?

2012-05-05 11:13:56 PM
Simply dreadful. Oh, dear.

THIS.

This is the description I was looking for, but lacked the words.

How about we just let Mozart be Mozart, and let random YouTube drummer guy be random YouTube drummer guy?

Guy's an ok drummer, but this is kind of an ill conceived outing. Also, even allowing for what - I think - he was trying to do, there was way too much double bass action.

I'll admit it, I do not get the reference at all.

He seems to only play one drum at a time. This really sucked more than I wanted it to. At least he can use the double kick fast.

Ah. I recalled the name from seeing it as a kid, just not the the music for it. Thanks!
/34 is whippersnapper criteria still? It's all relative I suppose.

His meter is just off through the whole thing...it all sounds forced, and he has all these spots where he pauses to let the recorded track catch up. IMHO It's just kind of arrogant to do this.

This guy does a MUCH better job at making his playing musical, and not doing ridiculous stilted tom runs that run out of steam like the submitted video does. It's like he thought about it, and broke it down into sections of different feels instead of just trying to hit an accent on every single note of the piece.

I found it surprisingly boring and uninteresting.

It may be technically commendable(?), but its not entertaining in my opinion.
