chuckufarlie: DrBenway: chuckufarlie: DrBenway: chuckufarlie: so, what you are saying is that you really have nothing intelligent to add to the discussion.

Funny how someone so far in a hole can still try to condescend. Good luck with that, hoss.

All your boys do is make personal attacks and not one of you has the intelligence or the knowledge to address the things that I have stated. Good for you.

My, such a sense of entitlement! As though your remarks merit something better. Whether you're a shill or merely a fool, "because I said so" is a poor way to make any points here, and certainly isn't going to convince anyone of your alleged "facts."

Have you ever sat around and listened to adults having a discussion? One person makes observations or provides data and then others address it. That is what I was hoping for here but I guess that I am the only adult.

BTW - the information that I provided concerning temperature changes is in the IPCC report and is accepted by their scientists as accurate.

Also keep in mind that lots of people believe in a heliocentric model of the solar system, gravity, and evolution. What you should take away is that the popularity of a given opinion isn't an absolute indicator of the veracity of something, but sometimes it's a pretty good heuristic when you consider those people who are informed and/or experts in the given subject. My only problem with that line of reasoning is the relatively low barrier of entry to claim the title of "scientist". Oh you have a bachelor's degree in environmental science with a 2.0 GPA and have been working at Starbucks since you graduated 5 years ago. Tell us all your opinion, oh great scientist!

chuckufarlie: Pharque-it:

FACT # ONE

The increase in average global temperature has increased by less than one degree Celsius since 1850. This is in the data provided by the CRU and included in the IPCC report.

FACT # TWO

Per the information gathered from the Vostok ice core samples, increases in CO2 have always followed an increase in temperature. I suggest you google VOSTOK if you want to look at that information.

FACT # THREE

Even though it has been reported that glaciers are retreating, but a study in nature, based on satellite imagery, has shown that some melting of lower altitude glaciers is taking place but that higher glaciers have been adding ice.

FACT # FOUR

Environmentalists like to tell us that polar bears are dying off but a new Canadian study shows that the polar bear population is on the rise.

Your turn.

1:
Yes, you agree it's getting warmer.
"Averaging the global land and ocean as a whole, the combined land and ocean surface temperature during March 2012 was 0.46°C (0.83°F) above the 20th century average of 12.7°C (54.9°F), resulting in the coolest March temperature since 1999 and ranking as the 16th warmest March since records began in 1880."
Link

2:
"The strong correlation between atmospheric greenhouse-gas concentrations and Antarctic temperature, previously described by Barnola et al. (1987), is confirmed by the extension of the Vostok ice-core record (Petit et al. 1999). From the extended Vostok record, Petit et al. (1999) concluded that present-day atmospheric burdens of carbon dioxide and methane seem to have been unprecedented during the past 420,000 years. Temperature variations estimated from deuterium were similar for the last two glacial periods (Jouzel et al. 1996), and the detailed δDice record confirms the main features of the third and fourth climate cycles described by Petit et al."
Link

3:
"Right now, the glaciers that are currently melting are losing 1 or 2 feet of thickness every year. If they continue at that pace, some of those glaciers could be gone by the end of the century.

But that's too simple a way to look at the problem. That's because our climate is also expected to get wetter as it gets warmer. And professor Michael Bishop of the University of Nebraska in Omaha says that's a critical wild card."
Link

4:
"The polar bear is classified as a vulnerable species, with eight of the nineteen polar bear subpopulations in decline.[6] For decades, large scale hunting raised international concern for the future of the species but populations rebounded after controls and quotas began to take effect."

"The IUCN, Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, United States Geological Survey and many leading polar bear biologists have expressed grave concerns about the impact of climate change, including the belief that the current warming trend imperils the survival of the species."

All that this (polar bears, glaciers) shows is that scientists need to realize that climate change is a hot button issue, and they can't be releasing incomplete, half-assed papers and statements to the media. It's sad that there are so many groups with a vested interest is keeping this conversation an ideological issue but it's a known reality. I'm sure there were cases of individual/teams of scientists who wanted to cash in on the spectacle that is climate change and talked out their asses but most of the science is pretty solid.

1) This statement:

does, in fact, blame the scientists and nobody else.

It wasn't a story. It was part of a TV commercial about global warming. They showed a polar bear out on this piece of floating ice, like he was stuck out there, watching his habitat dwindle to nothing. I think Sharon Lawrence was the spokeswoman in that commercial. The whole thing was pretty heavy-handed.

It was also in An Inconvenient Truth and the sad story of drowning polar bears precipitated their entry on the endangered species list.
