Why the use of the cool tag? This is more scary than anything.

While I can't defend DUI, I know several people who are on these blow machines. They've had thier licenses irrevocably suspended, but still have to blow several times a day. If you miss a blow, a single blow, for any reason, you go instantly to jail. Depending on your circumstances that may be a week in jail, or the revocation of a sentence, so 5-10 years in. Granted, it means you don't have to be in jail, so there's a benefit.

But it's rough enough trying to work a job while having one of these things with set schedules, if it was dropped to 'any time I want you're going to drop everything you're doing and blow' that's going to basically shiat can anyones chance of maintaining a job. Most of the people I know on them are absolutely scared shiatless and paranoid about missing a blow (and, as an aside, are sober, working a program, and in a sober living facility as well, so they're doing it for realz yo). Even if you've got the type that can be carried around (which is amusing, see: no car), you have to worry about it staying up and running and other issues.

Like I said, it's nice that they don't have to be in jail. But the machines aren't that great, and DUI is a recent invention. I'd honestly like to see any numbers of people killed by sincere DUI drivers, as opposed to MAD manipulated numbers, and cop bullshiat numbers.

I don't advocate drunk driving, but it does seem a bit screwed up how drunk drivers are treated as the only ones personally responsible for any accidents they cause. Anyone else can run over a dozen schoolchildren and as long as they weren't drunk it's fine.

Stipulations as part of your probation. After I got a DUI, I had moved out of state but still had to drive 3 hours back once a month to go piss in a cup for my probation officer. If I had tested positive for drugs/alcohol then I was in violation of my probation and my suspended sentence would go into effect.

DUI became less about driving while drunk and more about drinking period sometime in the late 90's or so. "Think of the children that will be plowed over by drunk drivers" is usually the first argument you hear when they want to open up a liquor store somewhere, even though the whole point of the liquor store is usually to have your beer at home instead of driving to a bar.

As someone who has lost friends to alcoholic farkwits, your friends should have been sentenced to death by the judge. The fact that they are inconvenienced is no farking problem of mine. I don't drive drunk.

Because you've been convicted of being an alcoholic fark who drives while completely plastered. At that point, part of your punishment can in fact be that you are forbidden to drink alcohol.

They also have the choice of going to jail. They were punished to a jail sentence but offered terms of probation if they choose.

I think you didnt focus on this part enough. I get everything you're saying and the blowing in it while at work thing is pretty shiatty but again, you lost sight of this part of your post. A co-worker of mine has the ankle bracelet and has to blow in to the car and hes had to pay out 5 grand so far in lawyer fees to fight false positives, lest they revoke his probation. Hell I was with him in a ditch for 6 hours working when they called one time to tell him his monitor had detected him drinking. Improve the technology cause as it stands, it doesn't work worth a shiat. Then ill be ok with it.

To the person who mentioned that in Ohio it is only 3 days, your wrong. It is 3 days to 6 months or so (alt least in PA). If it was only three days, they would only make the money from fines. With the extra 6 months, they get probation fees too....

A few friends of mine had to blow into a device to start their car but not every few hours. They just had to be sober to start the car and every 15 mins had to blow again to keep it running.

If only there were some sort of service that could be called when one was too intoxicated to drive... perhaps another individual who drove a vehicle full-time who had the profession of providing others with transportation. In theory, you could exchange a predetermined amount of currency or credit (we'll call it a "fare") in order to compensate this person. In exchange for this fare, they could drive you wherever you wanted to go, thus negating the chance of you being arrested by law enforcement for driving while intoxicated.

Maybe we could even paint the vehicles that these individuals would drive the same color across a fleet of vehicles to make sure that people could recognize what kind of car it was when they needed one. Better yet, give these vehicles a distinctive name... like... "taxi"... or something.

I hope that you guys don't think less of me for sharing this obviously-fevered dream. I just wish it were reality.

Then again.....at least here in Jersey you have to be pretty farking hammered to get slapped with an Interlock device on your ride. Like almost double the legal limit. I'm going to get my own license back in a few months after my unfortunate and embarrassing DWI episode, but I skated the Interlock requirements. Did the horseshiat IRDC classes (that's another post altogether) and I'm not risking the charge for driving on a DWI suspension....then they bring the goddamn pain. Mass transit goes to my work, so it honestly could be worse. It's also only a motor vehicle violation so my record is clean. Learned my lesson, that's for goddamn sure.

I am being serious on that. Have one and get in the car within a half hour, you will blow illegal. I agree that many people use it as an excuse...but I just had one or two...but that doesn't make it any less real when it happens to some.

I got mine, I did my probation and accepted it for what it was. Would I do it again under the exact same circumstances, without a doubt. There was nothing wrong with what I did. I was stone cold sober.
