I'm sure they are plenty of people opposed to abortion. But more and more I'm becoming convinced that much of the opposition to abortion isn't opposition to abortion per se but opposition to the legality of abortion and the apparent moral justification that appears to go along with it. I think for many people, they would be fine if abortion was still done in the shadows and whispered about and not done upfront. It's just like keeping homosexuality in the closet and unwed motherhood hidden from view. They really object to what they see as an "in your face" attitude challenging their moral beliefs.

We all know that ""we don't use federal funds for abortions" story is a lie. The shell game is the funds go to acceptable screenings and other money they bring in goes to the abortions, rather than trying to fund both facets with non-federal funds.

It's not different than federal money that goes to churches to perform social services. It's not supposed to be used for proselytizing or religious purposes, but every federal dollar that a church spends in its soup kitchen frees up a dollar for for protesting gay marriage and the teaching science in public schools.

It adequately explains why folks are trying to renege on the water rights for the local tribes. Not even for agriculture, but for folks to have manicured greens and their own gardens at home, and some agribusiness in the surrounding area. The amount of wasted water in Maricopa is just staggering.
