Some of his best friends own workhouses.

Just the other day he lowered the privacy glass a full inch and said "Porterhouse, now you KNOW you're not allowed out of the car while I'm in the Club, right? I certainly hope you brought your shoe-buffing chamois with you."

If that doesn't qualify what does?

Everyone Romney talks to is poor, in comparison.

To be honest, it's a short conversation. Usually just "You're fired," followed by "Security will show you to the door."

Question: Mitt, what poor people have you talked to?

Romney: All of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.

2012-05-05 02:06:30 PM
"I was talking to this poor guy the other day (Ann and I like to call them "povs"). He'd just finished making a custom saddle for my Missouri Fox Trotter. The saddle, by the way, was very expensive. But I didn't quite like it so I told him to make it again. I'll still have him fired when he's done, but he seemed to appreciate my eye for detail and insistence on excellence. So as you can see, I can relate to poor people quite readily."

Is it me or, and I could be way off the mark here, but it almost appears as if Fox News is being slightly critical of a Republican candidate.

I know, crazy talk. But for one second I could have sworn...

Must have been a hallucination.

This Romney guy is not being handled very well. His people should keep him away from cameras except for his St. Reagan-impersonation speeches.

Oh, wait, I'm a Democrat.

Carry on, Willard, we'd love to hear more.

Of course he talks to poor people.

Poor people carefully chosen by his handlers so their filthy poorness doesn't rub off on him by accident.

Sad thing is I think Kerry seems even more charismatic than Romney.

And I didn't think that was even possible.

And the very best republican out of all available. At this point I fully expect him to tap Jerry Lawler as his VP. After running a spirited campaign they'll appear on hand to observe the election results infront of a teeming throng. As the news breaks, Romney will unzip his suit and Andy Kaufman will jump out and give Lawler a passionate kiss and fly away on a cleverly concealed hot air balloon.

Who cares if he won't name names, the bigger question is not who specifically do you talk to but rather "what issues do they bring up?" and "what policies do you have that address those issues?"

I don't actually care whether or not he meets with poor people ever, I care that he in some manner realizes the problems they face and I care what if anything he wants to do about it.

Kerry isn't all that charismatic, but he's superior to Mittens in that regard because Kerry was at least genuine. He was a rich boring guy who acted like a rich boring guy. He didn't try to be something he wasn't, which is Mitt's downfall, IMO.

Poor people just want to vent, which Mitt lets them do, or at least imagine that some of their peers did, which is all they really need. so it would be inefficient to both tell the guy mowing the lawn that he should have brought his own damn water and then go talk to some idiot who picked his parents stupidly.

If poor people were smart enough to have decent policy ideas they would be rich enough to enjoy the sort of tax cuts that good policy consists of.

Remember, there were a couple of times Romney wondered whether he was going to get a pink slip, and now he's unemployed. So he understands and is concerned about America's poor. Well, Romney's not as concerned about America's poor as much as some of the most ardent fans. But he some great friends who are owners of poor people.

Presumptive nominee presumes too much.

Romney: "I talk to poor people all the time. I love taunting them as I hunt them on my secluded properties. Sometimes I even empathize with them slightly as they look into my eyes after I shoot one in the back of the legs and they try desperately to crawl away. Luckily though, the red blood on the grass reminds me of the pink slips I am so fond of giving out and I immediately develop a proud and unyielding erection. I then carefully take aim at the poor person and shoot to kill."

Romney pauses dramatically and the continues: "After that I feel as close to the struggles of the common man (or woman because I believe in equal opportunity hunting) as anyone could. In a little ritual I have developed, I then masturbate over their cooling corpse in the same way I used to masturbate over the thought of performing another massive layoff."

I sure Romney has plenty of black friends, too that are immediately searched before, after, and sometimes during a party at his house!

I noticed that also. The article didn't call Mitt a liar about him saying he talks to "regular" people, but it sure seemed to cast doubt about it in the manner it was phrased almost exactly how they do President Obama.

I read this story yesterday and was kind of shocked by that. The comments are even more critical. I thought I'd wandered into Daily Kos for a second.

They're just reassuring decent Americans that Mitt doesn't actually talk to poor people, that any claim to the contrary is just a wink, wink piece of misdirection to trick the sort of idiots who think listening to poor people is a good idea.
