The demise of McNabb has made me respect Andy Ried as a coach much much more. He covered for McNabbs weaknesses for over a decade and they could actually compete. As much as it pains me to say it, TO was right, If Mcnabb hadn't played like a girl in the 4th against the Pats the Eagles just might have been superbowl champs.

He's a black Brett Favre without a Super Bowl ring.

He's not totally delusional in that there is likely one or two clubs who might take a shot on McNabb. What makes him totally delusional is his recently stated belief that he belongs in the Hall of Fame on the basis of his body of work up to this point.

I'm not an Eagles fan. You using the argument that the Eagles have not won a playoff game in 2 years to blame it on Ried? Even if the Eagles won that superbowl McNabbs chance at the HOF is 50-50 at best. A career QB rating of 85.6 and a post season QB rating of 80 is decent but not spectacular.

What does any of that have to do with your statement that Reid made McNabb look good and that McNabb lost the Super Bowl for the Eagles? You may not be an Eagles fan but your sure speak their language.

It's going to be really funny in 10-15 years when Eagles fans will all claim to have loved McNabb the whole time because they won't have found anyone to replace him.

I don't think Philly sports fans are jerks (after all, I'm a fan of all Philly teams except for the Eagles), I just find it funny that players they run out of town later become their heroes when it becomes convenient. McNabb will be the new Randall Cunningham in a few years.

A mediocre McNabb looked much better than he actually ever was under Andy Ried's system for over a decade. A mediocre McNabb played like a biatch in the 4th quarter of the biggest game of his life missing the only chance he will ever have to be a champion. These are my opinions and don't give a flying fark if you agree.

I dunno. As it stands, I'd say he's close but no cigar on HOF. A SB win would have tipped that into almost a sure thing in my mind. Maybe 80-20. Or if he manages to actually play a year or two of productive football still, that might do it even without a ring.

"I've been training hard and preparing myself out in San Diego working with George Whitfield, the obviously well-known quarterback guru, supposedly, for over the past month,"

McNabb works out for 'over a month' and thinks that is enough to shake the stigma of being someone who is not willing to do the hard work? He's devolved into Jeff George. Too many 'the way I play' and 'my game' statements outta this guy since he left Philadelphia.

I wanted him to succeed in Washington, and in Minnesota, but he managed to burn those bridges--and continues to blame others for what happened. 'Over a month' is not enough to fix the cracks that he let develop into his game. If he's finally serious about retuning his game, by training camp time he will be able to say 'over four months straight'. That might impress a desperate team. It might not.

When did I say Donovan belongs in the HOF? Your point was that Andy Reid made McNabb look good. My point was that your point is pants-on-head retarded. There's a huuuuuuge gray area between "McNabb was bad and Andy Reid is clearly a genius for getting anything out of him" and "McNabb belongs in the HOF". From a purely statistical standpoint, he is borderline (I threw up a little typing that). 37k passing yards, 263 combined TDs, 6-time pro bowler, he's top 20 all-time in several categories (completions, attempts, passing yards, INT %)...there are HOF quarterbacks with worse numbers. That said, he didn't win a championship and he definitely hasn't ingratiated himself to the sports media or his peers, and my gut is that he's not going to get the votes unless something big changes in the future.

Put another way, pro football reference lists Mark Brunell, Steve McNair, and Boomer Esiason among QBs with similar career numbers. But it also lists Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, and Bob Griese. That looks borderline to me, much as I hate to admit it.

McNabb's career went through two phases. When he was young and mobile he wasn't that great of a passer, but he made up for it be being elusive and scrambling. Later on he lost that speed and I feel like the hits he took scrambling started to catch up him. He did an admirable job of working to become a better passer though. I also give McNabb some credit on the passing game since he didn't have that great of WRs for most of his career and he had to deal with Andy Reid's giant playbook of weirdness. He shouldn't be first ballot HOF but he should get in there.

During the good years of his career, McNabb was one of the Top 5 QBs in the league and took the Eagles on play off runs. At the end of the day McNabb is like Reid, pretty good and you could do a lot worse, but there are people who are markedly better.

/CSB:
My mother met McNabb's mom at a travel plaza. They started chatting while in line at Starbucks. McNabb was there as well but my mother didn't recognize him. The three of them are walking back out to the parking lot (the mothers chatting away) and the wind blows the lid off my mother's coffee and sprays the coffee on. McNabb kind of chuckles about that and his mother turns him and just tears into him for laughing at the misfortune of others. Ends up ordering him back inside to get my mother a new coffee, some napkins, and to apologize. No matter how rich you are and how many division titles you win, when mom says jump, you jump.

McNabb was a good QB, no matter what anyone says about him. I know of quite a few teams that would've loved to have him under center when he took the team to 5 straight NFC Championship games. Facts are, he got old, his coach sucked, and he never had a stable team around him. His best season was when TO was on the team ... not a bragging right, I know, but nonetheless, the Eagles were a ferocious team that year. If Andy Reid didn't ignore the fact that any championship team needs a solid running game, we'd all be singing a different tune about McNabb.

I think he deserves to be in the HOF, just for the sheer fact that he carried an entire offense on his shoulders for 10 years while having an idiot for a coach.

He'd make a great backup QB in Pittsburgh.

Reid and McNabb are both great guys who have some fatal flaws. Reid still has a chance to get the Eagles to a Super Bowl, McNabb probably doesn't have much of a shot of doing anything anywhere.

I was shocked McNabb did not do better in Washington or with the Vikings, but I guess Reid wasn't or he would not have traded him in the division to begin with. Keep that in mind, Eagles fans didn't drive McNabb out of town, Reid drafted a new QB and then traded the one he had because he knew it was time. Reid would not give any shiats if the fans were unhappy, he does what he thinks will work.

I still hope McNabb manages to come back and have a decent year somewhere just because he was a great enough player that he deserves not to leave as such a joke around the league.

Mike Shannahan seems to know a thing or two about coaching good QB's and has a couple rings to prove it. McNabb was so bad he had to bench him mid season and fired him at the end of the year. Then he went on to stink it up for the Vikings. Have a better explanation for such a drastic drop in production the second he left the Eagles? Why am I even asking you? FTA: No one doubts that Anger has starter ability. The problem: the Jags lost 11 times last season and it wasn't because they didn't have a top-flight punter. And this isn't the first time in recent draft history that Jacksonville drafted a punter. In 2007, they selected Adam Podlesh in the fourth round, and thought so much of him that they let him walk after the 2010 season. He signed with the Bears and played well in 2011. The lesson: a team with myriad roster needs shouldn't be preoccupied with landing the "best" punter when starters can regularly be found after the draft.

...just sayin'
