I'm waiting for Clockwork Angels to come out. If the three tracks already released are any indication, this album is going to be killer.

/ymmv on if Rush is metal. Imho they are.

2012-05-04 07:28:13 PM
Never heard of any of them. List fails without Van Halen's A Different Kind of Truth, IMO.

Album of the farking year.

But maybe that's hard rock and not metal?

No Dave Guard?!

This list SUCKS because it's probably ACCURATE.

I personally wouldn't consider Rush metal, but everything I've heard off Clockwork Angels so far ranks among the heaviest stuff they've ever done.

Was scrolling down, wondering if High on Fire or Goatwhore would make the list.

As a nearly 20 year fan of metal, I have to say that I think the concept of a good "album" by musicians not concerned primarily with image is completely dead.

Seconded.

Lamb of God's newest album didn't really stand out at all compared to the rest of their work.

God Forbid's recent album Equilibrium is awesome.

Fear Factory's new one has yet to come out. I'm pretty excited fer it.

Rush is about as metal as Pat Boone.

One Bad Apple: Do they still make metal ?

I'm still waiting for the lists of best Disco, Shoegazer and Industrial albums.

Do they still make albums?

2012-05-04 08:14:14 PM
Ok, a few alternate selections:
Abigail Williams - Becoming Here is the song "Radiance" off it. It's far better than anything this band has previously put out.
Eluveitie - Helvetios Here is the single "Havoc". Metal with folk instrumentation, always fun.
Swallow The Sun - Emerald Forest and the Blackbird. Cathedral Walls
Pallbearer - Sorrow And Extinction. An Offering Of Grief
Asphyx = Deathhammer. Deathhammer.
Nightbringer - Hierophany of the Open Grave. Lucifer Trismegistus

well, copper prices are still high, and of course the precious metals as well, but I haven't checked on steel or aluminum

Bookmark. I need some exposure since our radio stations around here think the 90's never ended.

I do this thing. Every single time someone tells me they are into black metal, I say "Like Living Color?"

I don't know why, I laugh every time.

I'm good with Overkill and High on Fire - I'm not sure if they'll make my best-of list yet, but they're solid albums.

Here are seven of my favorites from this year so far -

Asphyx - Deathhammer (death/doom)

Desaster - The Arts of Destruction (black/thrash)

Faustcoven - Hellfire and Funeral Bells (black/doom)

Horrendous - The Chills (death)

Nocturnal Torment - They Come At Night (death)

Pact - The Dragon Lineage of Satan (black)

Pseudogod - Deathwomb Catechesis (death/black)

Plus I'm eagerly awaiting these three:

Ahab - The Giant (funeral doom)

Candlemass - Psalms for the Dead (eargasm doom; Is it June 5th yet?)

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata (avant-garde)

Lumbar Puncture: Evilsmurf: Eluveitie - Helvetios Here is the single "Havoc". Metal with folk instrumentation, always fun.

Yes, the rest of the album is most certainly in that style. As is their other material. For bands along the same lines may I also recommend Finntroll, Tyr, Metsatoll, Korpiklaani, Turisas, Alestorm (who I believe are due to release an album this year) and Mago De Oz.

Accept - Stalingrad

Not a bad track on it.

haven't listened to them yet but Swallow the Sun and Borknagar have new albums, so those are probably better than Dragonforce since they suck

Maybe, that was a good album too. Death is this Communion is still my favorite album of theirs (but I haven't heard Surrounded by Thieves yet).

The cover art for Snakes vs Vermis is a toss-up for me though. I mean, tentacle porn vs. Lovecraftian mysticism? How do I choose, those are two of my favorite things :)

As someone who sells guitars and amps, that segment of our customer base might as well be gone right now.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but it seems like it's getting harder and harder for me to find newer metal that I like these days. It seems so many metal bands do the barking dog type of vocals. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but most of the more modern metal bands out there seem to use it way too much. Whatever happened to, you know, singing? It is possible to still be aggressive without cookie monster shiat.

Both excellent. You need to have those.

They aren't quite full-on metal, but I love the band Torche, and their new one, Harmonicraft is f*cking amazing. It's only been out two weeks and I am wearing the SH*T out of it.

Reverse Inverted for anyone interested

Damn, I'd say that's a pretty farkin' good list. Goatwhore, High on Fire, Napalm Death, Municipal Waste, and Meshugguh? Hell yeah.

Good call.

/If you can count the number of languages bands you like sing in on one hand, you don't listen to enough Folk Metal.
