Going in 10 minutes to volunteer for Children's Lighthouse, raising money to build the first children's hospice and respite home in Minnesota. http://www.childrenslighthousemn.org/ if you're interested in donating.

You're right, you're not trolls; you're just vicious assholes...

"Rightly skeptical" my ass... GD is more trustworthy than you, nameless douchebag... The fact she once had an alt is something she shares with probably half or more people here... Some of them posting in this thread! So, get off your farking high-horse, and get over whatever butt-hurt you still have from the LBJ days (which are long gone)... Whatever you may say about her, she's a far better human being than any of you dickbags who do nothing but spew bile and hatred whenever she posts...

Oh, really? Do I follow you around from thread to thread, insulting you every time you post even the most innocuous thing? The only time I'm an asshole to anyone is when they're being an asshole at that time... I don't obsess over them and harrass them at every future opportunity... You, if I ever see you post in another thread, I won't even farking remember who you are, so if you're not still being a dickbag, I won't treat you like one...

Well shoot. I won't give my credit card information to groups (I'm paranoid like that). Tell you what- I just bought you a pair of roller skates (I'm a big fan of roller derby). Please donate what you think is appropriate in exchange.

Personally, I come here for the "AWs". I also think Attention Whore is unbelievably rude. We all come here for human interaction. That's what this place is for. Claiming that your way of getting attention is pure and noble while her way of getting attention is crass and horrible...I just don't get it. It's not white knighting- I just think it's a nasty thing to call anyone, period.

Who exactly am I following around from thread to thread? Please feel free to point out where I insulted the person attempting to raise money, or where I told anyone not to donate. In fact, all I said related to her was that some people were going to be skeptical. The only person I was actually an "asshole" to is the dude who is known for making outrageous claims with no proof.

I don't know that you are one of her dedicated haters or their alts... My initial venom was directed at all of them; the "trolls" you were defending as being "rightly skeptical", which is utter horseshiat...

In fact, all I said related to her was that some people were going to be skeptical. The only person I was actually an "asshole" to is the dude who is known for making outrageous claims with no proof.

Yeah, and by encouraging this skepticism and trying to attack and discredit someone who seems to have actually done his homework and investigated the legitimacy of the charity, you are certainly indirectly discouraging people from donating to it... If you don't trust feckinmorons' investigation, why don't you do your own and let us know the results, instead of just sniping from the sidelines? You're helping no one...

It is not anonymous it is pseudonymous.

I don't fault the skepticism. Hell, I wouldn't contribute. (Sorry GD) But one or two posts would be expressing skepticism. 10-12 is either trolling or obsession. Either way, it got the thread more traffic and, like it or not, people donated who wouldn't have otherwise, or they contributed more. Had this been a 20 post no attention thread, she doesn't hit $500.

So whatever their motivation, and whether or not it's legit, they helped her far more than they hurt her.

I didn't say you were not trustworthy; I said GD was more trustworthy than you... I know her personally; I don't know you...

But, what I wouldn't do is passively-agressively snipe at what you posted and imply you were lying about your claimed credentials with absolutely zero proof to back me up... If I didn't trust what you said, I'd check it out myself and either confirm or disprove what you claimed... Ultimately, whether you're a "tax expert" or a janitor doesn't make the slightest bit of difference regarding the truth or falsehood of your original claim, so I wouldn't care much about investigating that...

Meh... I don't think anyone is really going to be swayed by that, anyway... I agree with you on that one: if he had to live up to it and didn't want to, we'd all probably have a hard time getting him to... (See all the people "danlpoon" still owes TF to from his lost bet that McCain would win!) But, frankly, who gives a shiat? Not sure, although it wasn't really on what you'd call a real album. The "I'm the Man" EP had 3 versions of the song "I'm the Man", a few live tracks and my favorite cover of Black Sabbath's "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"

Donations are currently at $1,880.00. YAY!

2012-05-05 04:52:35 PM
Wow.

Okay, what a wild thread this has turned into!

It was an awesome day. I am exhausted.

The turnout was really, really good.

As I said, a lot of people must have donated directly at the UCS website instead of my donor page, which makes sense because that's the link from Fark...

Here's the great news: When I showed up this morning, Sue, the assistant director came right up to me and said "What did you do?"

I said "How do you mean?"

She said "Well, about 4:30 yesterday I started getting flooded with emails with donations from Janet Coquette! She told me that she gets an email whenever someone makes a donation directly to the website.

I told her about Fark and how this went green, and she said that she had gotten around $300-500 in donations before she left work yesterday.

I am blown away. BLOWN_AWAY_YOU_GUYS. That means with the direct donations and the donations from my direct donor page that you guys gave around $2,400.00.

Again, my goal for the agency was $500.00 from Fark, not including my personal donations that I raised from friends/coworkers/etc.

Thank you Farkers so much for your generosity.

So the walk was a great turnout, but it looks like we did end up falling short of our goal. It's a little early to tell the exact dollar amount, but we think that we raised around maybe $60,000.00 this year. Last year we did just over $65,000.00. So, although we fell short, that's still a good number.

The turnout at the walk with regard to the number of people was fantastic. We were at the local YMCA, and then people did the walk around the river walk. What a turnout. The YMCA really isn't a big enough facility, but luckily the weather head out and many people were outside.

After the walk we loaded up all of the stuff and drove back to the agency to unload, and then went to the after party at McCarthy's restaurant. Not a huge turnout there, but we were kind of late showing up because we had to unload...

Anyway, I'm not sure what happened in this thread, but WOW are there a lot of hateful people here.

The good news is that I exceeded MY fundraising goal, THANK YOU FARKERS!, but the agency fell short of our goal overall.

I will try to post some pictures here in the next half hour or so...

: )

-Janet

You still haven't answered how you can legally indemnify any donors to a charity you are not affiliated with on an anonymous forum with no contracts being signed.

A contract requires an inducement and an acceptance with some consideration for such acceptance. We have all elements here. The inducement is my indemnification, the offer is the donation you can make, and the consideration is the cash you donate. We have all elements needed for a valid enforceable contract.

Few contracts need be memorialized in writing and signed by all the parties, real estate transactions top that list. You enter into several contracts a day without signing any papers or even having them written down.

I went to Subway a little while ago, I got a turkey sandwich. That was a contract. The offer was a tasty turkey sandwich, and the apple slices and diet Coke. The acceptance was my ordering that delicious lunch, and the consideration was the six dollars and change I paid for it. We didn't draw up an agreement, but it was a valid enforceable contract as well.

In the matter instant the inducement was my indemnification, the acceptance was your donation and the consideration was the ten dollars you gave (by proxy). All perfectly legal, valid and enforceable.

Should anyone who donated through GD's link feel the charity is not spending the money as they say the do on their website they simply need to send me a copy of their receipt and a note showing the charity's breech of duty and I'll happily send them a check.

YouWinAgainGravity: It matters if I were to declare I was indemnifying all donors and that it was an enforcable contract.

I could be that janitor, the indemnification is still as valid. I don't think my vetting of the charity actually made any difference to anyone but myself, I vet all charities to which I contribute. There was a bit of silliness about it too, if you have ever the attestation in a publicly traded firm's annual report ,or an attorney opinion letter you would have noticed a striking similarity.

However the indemnification is quite real, and quite valid.

Well, I can't honestly say that I've had the time to read through all of the comments/hatred on this page, but I can say this:

The hatred seems to really have pushed a lot of donations.

When people donate, they are able to leave comments. While I have not been able to see the comments on the direct to site donations, I am able to see the comments posted on my donor page. About a third of them are along the lines of "Wow, I'm sorry for all of the hatred you have received, thanks for doing this", etc. which leads me to believe that the haters really have helped inspire people do donate.

Again, I didn't know that this would go green and am very grateful that it did.

I exceeded my personal goal by a huge margin, and the money is badly needed because we fell way short of our goal this year.

Thanks again, you guys are great and so very generous.

Link to donate if you still want to.

The Jami Turman Fan Club: Well shoot.

Could you please email me?

feckingmorons: Grables'Daughter: feckingmorons: Grables'Daughter: feckingmorons: You're full of crap, you spent it all on beer and we all know it.

No, we know you couldn't drink that much beer. You're not Irish.

Hey, I just want to say thanks for the help in that thread.

It means a lot to me.

I think you helped a lot.

I just looked at the charity's filings and decided it was on the up and up. Lots of people didn't believe me. There is nothing I can do about that, lots of people don't like me for one reason or another. There is nothing I can do about that either. The combination seemed to be advantageous this time.

Let me know a few weeks before next year's fundraiser and I'll audit them and have it notarized and have my picture taken with the document!

Audit them?

Really?

I don't know what that means, but I will do that if you are serious.

Oh, and I got a few minutes of the director's time - I asked him why we are not on "Charity Navigator" like the person that was hating on me in the donation thread asked. He said, basically (paraphrasing) "I'm really not familiar with them. You know, there are about ten different sites that vet charities, and I know that we are on a few of them. The best ones really figure out who we are on their own, and others find out tax statements, etc. and figure out who we are on their own. I have never been asked directly to submit our info to that site directly, and it would take a little bit of my time, and I am very busy, and the bottom line is that we do great work and don't need them to give us a gold star sticker. Also, we may be too small for them to bother with us if they haven't looked at us."

Or something.

LOL anyway, I was happy to have his time, if you have any questions about my volunteer work, the money I raised, etc... email me and I can have him call you, or you can call him -- I told him about the butthurt here on Fark and he said that he has always appreciated the work that I have done and was blown away by the money raised, and he would be happy to personally vouch for me or the money raised.

OH - and this is the best part - I was sort of biatching about the amount of hatred on me and people saying that this was a fake charity - and he said "That's a good thing, really. We have nothing to hide, and it's good that people are being cautious.

: )
