I hope they keep it, too. The stadium always goes nuts when they queue it up. I think it would be a fitting tribute.

Same here, I'm stuck at work right now as well. However, I will be binge drinking as tribute in a couple of hours. Going to fight for my right to party while I still can.

He drew his rhymes like a bow, shot 'em out like an arrow.

I was in 8th grade when Licensed to Ill came out. Paul's Boutique was junior year of HS, and then Check your Head and Ill Communication during college. Combine that with the whole Nirvana / Pearl Jam / STP that was happening and I'm happy I had such good music going on at some of the most fun times of my life. Kids today and their Skrillex.. what do they know.

Ok, so... which version of Brass Monkey is the correct one? So far I've heard the following:

a) Mixed drink - vodka, dark rum, and OJ. There are variants with some other alcohols and juices.

b) Chug a 40 to the label, top off with OJ. The "poor man's mimosa"

c) Mountain Dew and Southern Comfort. I haven't heard this from anywhere other than a friend of mine who absolutely insists this is what it is.

d) other?

We need to organize a synchronized Monkey Toast for some time, call it 10 PM EST? Is 7PM Left Coast Time too early?

queezyweezel: Alright. Those guys were all about a good time, and making sure everyone else had one too. Lets get this thread rolling by telling your favorite Beastie Boys memory.

My favorite was getting hammered and doing karaoke to Paul Revere with my two best friends at a party back in high school. We had the place rolling.

Not really a favorite memory per se, but when I got my first boom box, License to Ill was the first cassette I bought for it. When I got my first CD player, License to Ill was my first upgrade to the new format.

CSB time

I'm related to Adam, though somewhat distance.. I've never met him personally, but I did meet his parents (Fran and Noel).. Got to hang out at one of their vacation spots..Very nice down to earth people.. Odd seeing 60+ year olds rocking out to Beastie Boys though...

My grandmother, who was at Adam's wedding, tells a story about getting tired, and some nice young man gave up his seat for her.. She found out later it was Julian Lennon. (or was it Sean? I don't rememeber. One of the Lennon sons..)..

Ok, so it would seem that the song is indeed about the premix rum/vodka/OJ drink.
The song specifically says its def when poured on ice, which happens to be the instructions on ye olde bottle.

However, at some unknown point (probably around the time it was no longer available), the common recipe turned to the 40/OJ. I do see a shot of SoCo being added to the OE8 before topping off with OJ in many of the recipes.

I saw them play at the Tibetan Freedom concert at DC in 98. Intergalactic was just starting to get a lot of play on the radio. They came out in lab coats and just rocked. I can't say I'm their biggest fan (just familiar with their hits), but man their live show was awesome!
