Lsherm: I really liked the Beastie Boys, mainly because they didn't steal other people's songs wholesale, slap an illiterate rhyme over it, and call it "art." So this really is a loss for the world.

yep. their sampling also got me to listen to a much wider variety of music. Flute loop, all of the sound bites, everything about their music was great. sometimes a bit silly, but always entertaining.

I remember when License to Ill came out. My brother and I thought it was the best thing ever. And if I recall correctly, it was on the Billboard top 100 well into the 90's.
