Stimpy's new tooth: santadog: Seen them 8 times live. Best shows, always fun to be at. Will miss those.

I'm so uber jealous of you....they were the one band left on my "bands to see before I or they die".

I'm old. I had plenty of chances. I wish I would have seen more.

Theonceovertwice: 1994 Lollapalooza. Best band all day.

And the only band the entire crowd was interested in, at least in Atlanta during the 94 tour.

But it's good to have a turn to be a king for a day,
Or for a week, or for a year, or for a year and a day.

RIP, Abednego.

Pretty much. They finally realized they couldn't ignore rap music because... ya know... white people like it too.

And to the rest of your comment I didn't quote... CNN is covering this as breaking news, and indeed MTV's got nothing. *sigh*

Even Scott Van Pelt on ESPN is taking calls on him. MTV sinks to a new low

serpent_sky: too_amuzed: Bonus - Public Enemy, so I can now tell my kids that I saw Flavor Flav in person.

And they'll be all "that reality show guy? Why did you see him? Did he happen to be at the show?"

Seriously, though. 47. Way too young. fark cancer.

Public Enemy opened.

Stimpy's new tooth: santadog: Jerkwater: Tyrone Biggums: I remember when License to Ill came out. My brother and I thought it was the best thing ever. And if I recall correctly, it was on the Billboard top 100 well into the 90's.

RIP

And then Paul's Boutique came out, which really was the best thing ever.

This many times over.
HUGE album.

Have you heard "Hot Sauce Committee"? It was just released last year, and it's every bit as good as anything they've done, IMNSHO.

I have not, but now I will.

hsc blasting in my ears right now. damn good stuff, but i'm sorry they didn't do more non-rap stuff...i love all their stuff, but i thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace with their instrumentals, and of course when they'd throw in some punk-flavor even on their 90s and 2000s releases

MTV isn't music television anymore. They're a lifestyle channel. MTV is a total misnomer. What they used to be died long ago. They "expanded the brand" to reel in extra advertising money. They're as relevant to music as Rolling Stone is.

H31N0US: [www.abevigoda.com image 197x248]

Abe Vigoda will walk along the melted-glass corpse of the American coast - her water boiled off, her atmosphere blasted away by solar winds. There he will sit when the sun, red and bloated in its death throes engulfs the withered husk of our beloved home.

And he will laugh.

Because his Long Wait is at an end. He will jab a withered finger into the sun's distended Photosphere and cackle madly as he utters the words he's been waiting so long to say: "I beat you, you farker!"

And the sun will weep as Abe's laughter rings through its Convective Zone.

Kate H: fark cancer.

Cancer can bite my lily white ass.

Given that my little brother just had a modified neck dissection on Tuesday(lymphatic melanoma), I agree with you 1000%.

In the very early 90's, he used to date the older sister of a friend of mine. Had dinner with him at her parent's house once. Very nice guy.

I was probably about 12 years old at the time... I knew who the Beastie Boys were and that he was a celebrity, but I wasn't a huge fan yet. Started listening to his music after I met him, and now I'm a lifelong fan!

/RIP Adam!

I'm old too!! I just live in the South, they didn't really make the Gulf Coast a key destination on tours. I was really hoping they would tour again for Hot Sauce Committee (now that I can actually afford to travel), but with MCA's illness, no more tours.

H31N0US: Bodhisattva Vow. That is all.

This.
I has a sad. For his fans, family, and friends.
And selfishly, my own sad.
But he'll be back to shake things up again.
And, the Dalai Lama said on his deathbed he would receive total consciousness.
So he had that going for him.
Which is nice.

I am 38 years of age. License to ill was my first ever ´proper´ album. I had it on cassette - wore it out and bought another. I´d never heard anything like it before.

My two sons are aged 7 and 4. Whenever we jump in the car they ask that I put Paul´s Boutique on.

Sad.

I remember waiting outside the record store for Pauls Boutique to drop. I rode my bike to the mall with my boom box because I couldn't wait to get home to hear it. I rode around until my batteries died blasting that shiat. That tape changed my life and was a major part of my teenage sound track. When your heroes die it really sucks but when they are only a few years older than you are it hurts a little more. I'm sitting here crying over the death of a stranger, and to have that kind of impact on someone you never physically met is the sign of a well-lived life as an artist. Thank you.
I'm haveing a big ol bowl of Pollywog Stew for lunch followed by some B-Boy Boulliabase.
fark.

Absolutely hated the Beastie Boys, but it's a shame when anyone passes away so young.

Is there verification he actually died from Cancer? Or are you farking yokels assuming it was Cancer?

2012-05-04 02:13:31 PM
Bummer. Big bummer. Cancer sucks, etc, etc.

Hopefully this also means the Beastie Boys are dead, because there's nothing worth than recording and touring after the death of a key member of the band... I'm looking at you here, The Dead/The Other Ones/Furthur....

2012-05-04 02:13:45 PM
Just as Stevie Wonder took urban music and made it urbane, the Beastie Boys took urban music and made it suburban, both giving the genre much needed exposure and capital.

RIP, yo.

Was lucky enough to see two Beastie Boys shows. Paul's Boutique was a huge part of my life and I still say the greatest hip hop record of all time. I don't know anyone who didn't like the Beastie Boys, even people that didn't like hip hop liked them.

Bah, I'm getting old.

2012-05-04 02:15:34 PM
queezyweezel: Lets get this thread rolling by telling your favorite Beastie Boys memory.

At my friend's bachelor party, after we had gotten kicked out of a strip club because one dumbass with us tried to sit in someone's wheelchair, we were driving back home, and Fight for your Right came on. So naturally, all of us being drunk launched in to singing it at the top of our goddamn lungs. Well, one of the guys had a raging case of the hiccups. There are very few things funnier to me than someone else with uncontrollable hiccups. YOU GOT[hic]TA FIGHT! So me and my friend are just laughing our asses off at him, still singing, and he is getting more and more pissed off at being laughed at, drunk, trying to sing, but can't, and he's yelling at us YOU SO[hic]NS OF BI[hic]TCHES, and that's even funnier. To this day, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear Fight for your Right.
