I checked, it's actually not the first time this plane, tail number N293AS, has crashed and burned:

Vanquish: Why would a plane as big as a 727 crashing be considered not news?

BECAUSE IT'S MEXICO. I had a Mexican regional operator 727 visit my little airport for some TLC and we had to FOD check the runway after it arrived and after it left.

Current Resident: The as-yet-untitled episode will look to "re-create a serious, but survivable, passenger jet crash landing with a real aircraft,"

Well...OK. Except for anyone in/near first class or on the flight deck.

First Class on a 727

cgraves67: Considering how easily the Mythbusters squad can make an R/C car and the proliferation of drone aircraft technology, why did they even bother having a pilot on board?

/I'm gonna keep my eyes open for when this episode airs. It sounds interesting.

but how many times have the MythBusters lost control of one of their RC creations? A runaway car is one thing. An un-piloted aircraft is an entirely different kind of flying. Altogether
