I checked, it's actually not the first time this plane, tail number N293AS, has crashed and burned:

That's a lot of crashes

"This groundbreaking project features an actual crash of a passenger jet and explores the big questions about how to make plane crashes more survivable;

I would suggest crashing on the wheels and then rolling down the runway while slowing down and then eventually turning to the gate and then stopping right in front of the jetway.

Gosh, do I have to do everything?

Seems like an overly elaborate setup for a ghost hunters show

2012-05-04 04:41:45 PM
So how come this one didn't explode?

2012-05-04 04:44:14 PM
The pilot ejected from the plane minutes before impact

Wow! They're actually had someone pilot it instead of doing it remotely?

How exactly does one "eject" from a large passenger plane?

Considering how easily the Mythbusters squad can make an R/C car and the proliferation of drone aircraft technology, why did they even bother having a pilot on board?

/I'm gonna keep my eyes open for when this episode airs. It sounds interesting.

So where did they bury the survivors?

2012-05-04 04:49:36 PM
The plane was also followed by other planes filming the crash and by camera crews on the ground that also documented the event.

That's a lot of people hitting the same spot...

You are flying to Detroit...I think a possible plane crash is the least of your problems. ;)

but how many times have the MythBusters lost control of one of their RC creations? A runaway car is one thing. An un-piloted aircraft is an entirely different kind of flying. Altogether

The as-yet-untitled episode will look to "re-create a serious, but survivable, passenger jet crash landing with a real aircraft,"

Well...OK. Except for anyone in/near first class or on the flight deck.

Vanquish: Why would a plane as big as a 727 crashing be considered not news?

BECAUSE IT'S MEXICO. I had a Mexican regional operator 727 visit my little airport for some TLC and we had to FOD check the runway after it arrived and after it left.

/Subby
//Maybe it's an inside aviation joke.

What myth would Adam and Jamie be testing with a 727? That gravity really isn't a biatch?

NASA did it 1984, with remote controls all the way.

They got great footage, here is one example: NASA 707 crash

iat's very cool, the sad part is that it's supposedly demonstrating a flame resistant fuel... Oops, fail.

Here it is from more angles and with an audio explanation, but sort of an annoying storm chasers narrator.

Given the other news from Friday, are you sure the tail number on the 727 wasn't "3MTA3 05"?
