God, it was such a relief when we were able to avoid the massive privatization plan in Florida, though I suspect it'll eventually happen anyway.

Our contract attorneys were given an impossible task, to draft RFPs in a matter of days, before it was halted by the courts.

Private, for-profit prisons are demonstrably inefficient and bad for the taxpayer. The primary problem, and the reason so many GOP members like to claim they're good for the economy, is that they cherry pick inmates without health problems, thus leaving the state run facilities with the higher-cost inmates.

And of course, there's the profit motive that leads them to skimp on adequate nutrition and repairs/maintenance.

My favorite is still Big Horn County Montana where 10 years ago the Republican Governor (Martz) and the RNC chairman (former Governor Racicot) got together with their GOP prison-builder friends in Texas and sold the idea of a prison to the Republican county commissioners in Big Horn to float $25 million in bonds to build a prison that stands vacant to this day because somebody forgot to write a business plan. The Republican taxpayers there are still stuck holding the bag.

Fixed. It's just that, in Arizona, they're riding high on a conservative majority and a conservative governorship, so they're doing more damage, more quickly, than most states (except, perhaps, Wisconsin.)

I can't imagine why anyone would do business in either of those states, given how much palm grease must be required to do so.
