take the person who turned the key to lock the cell
take the person whose job it was to watch the prisoner

locked them in individual cells for 5 days, in exactly the same conditions (light, water, food, sanitation, what not)
call it holding, so they dont need a trial

if they live, they can be tried for their crimes.
if they die, their corpses can be dumped on street

oh yes
and disband the dea
they clearly are a clear and present danger to society

I think it was. Agent who processed him left him in a cell until another agent takes him home. The first agent assumes the second agent took him home. For whatever reason the second agent doesn't (misunderstood the message, forgot, whatever). Then everyone just assumes the guy in the holding cell who is kicking and screaming is just some nut job placed in hold by another agent. No one investigates since there's always a parade of people in and out of the holding cells, and they get the occasional crazy.

If the money represents some actual economic damage in the past (like reimbursement for out-of-pocket medical expenses), that portion may be tax free. Any money for pain and suffering or future lost income would probably be taxable. There won't be punitive damages in this case (the federal government is immune from punitive damages), but if there were, they'd be taxable.

Bottom line, if he got $20 million, a significant portion would go for taxes.

I'm pretty sure 10 days is survivable if you just laid there and the environment wasn't extreme or dry. Not sure if drinking piss would help, but if it would I'd do that too for $20M.

It's not whether or not you can survive, it's how much kidney damage you suffer before you get water again. That's what the "incredible survival" stories never mention when someone is found after 110 days in the rubble after some disaster--that often they die later in the hospital from kidney failure.

For instance, a man was found alive seven days after the 880 freeway collapse following the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, and everyone cheered...but he died the next week when his kidneys couldn't be restarted and his blood was too toxic to be cleansed properly before he died. Another person who got lost during a Dubai endurance race wandered around in the desert for a week managing to eat bats to survive suffered such lasting kidney damage he was never able to race again. Kidneys by and large are not very forgiving.

According to the article, this kid was in preliminary kidney failure when he was found, He's young, so it may not show up for a while, but I'll bet in later life he'll suffer serious problems if he's not very careful. So I myself would not go a week without water for $20 mil. You might have to invest the whole thing on a transplant later on.

It's a rule of thumb, you can clearly survive 3 days without water, but the end isn't pretty - your eyeballs shrink, organs fail, tongue turns black.. - not a nice way to go.
