Looks like they're doing the same thing with the back story that they did in Hulk 1. Where the "accident" that creates the hero wasn't entirely an accident, and their fate was determined long before.

I guess I can live with that but I do wish they had stuck with organic web shooters.

Yeah, oddly enough the organic webshooters made more sense. I mean he's a mutant or whatever he is anyway so why not? But the homemade ones, did he make them out of admantium or something? Cause I can see that they wouldn't snap his wrists because he's Spider-Man but wouldn't they break immediately with all the swinging?

Anyway, this is just a quick grasp by Sony to retain the rights to the property because if they don't make a Spider-Man movie every couple years the rights revert back to Marvel where they belong.

Genius move putting this between The Avengers and Batman, BTW.

I think so, yeah. Cause The Avengers is pretty much a Disney movie. But so was Pulp Fiction. They have a lot of hands in a lot of pies.

I kinda feel bad for them. Even though (IMHO) Thor and IM2 were the weakest of the Avenger's series, they were both still miles ahead of Spider-Man 3. That movie left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths and hurt the franchise. I think most people want to see a continuation of a story (Avenger's, Dark Knight Rises), instead of another reboot (Spider-Man).

I might see this, but I am definitely seeing Avengers and Batman.

X-Men III, too. Thank god for First Class. I don't care if you like superhero movies or not. That flick was incredible and had alot of heart.

Are you talking about the 2002 Spider-Man? Cause it's kinda hard to call yourself a crime fighter if you're trying to get with a 13 year old.

Yep, I loved everything about that movie. It put Fassbender in my top actors who I can't wait to see (him being in Prometheus is just icing on a badass looking cake).

Details, details....

But yes, Witt would have been a solid choice, too.

Pulp Fiction was Miramax, which was cool back then BEFORE the Weinsteins sold out to Disney. Disney had nothing to do with it, but they do own it now.

Movies I will watch the shiat out of this year:
Prometheus
Batman Ends
Avengers
Hobbit

this? I'll wait until it shows up on HBO in three years.

Love the choice of The Lizard as villain.

Love Emma as Gwen.

Love the return to mechanical web-shooters. Adds Parker's scientific genius to the storyline and brings back the element of danger in the form of running out of web solution.

Hate the farking with the origin. Isn't Spidey's origin compelling enough as is?

Well, I know that in the cartoon (the 90's one, not the 60's one, well maybe that one too, I'm not sure), he actually held onto the webbing after he shot it, it didn't stay attached to the shooters.

As for the organic shooters, if you're going to bring reality-based questions into the discussion, it seems to me that in order to produce that volume of webbing, there wouldn't be much of a movie because he'd be too busy feeding himself to do anything else.

Writers wouldn't be earning their keep if they weren't changing stuff every five year old knows.

So, Osborne genetically modified Spider-man to be both son and foe? Maybe he and Harry could be twins, one good, one evil. I hope that Gwen Stacy has Parker DNA, it'll be like the 70s in Marvel all over again.

I'm guessing not in this movie. The trailer suggests they're setting up Osbourne as the franchise villain, so I would expect they keep her around to build up the relationship more.

I wasn't too excited by it, as, again, it looked a bit too "emo". I know that Peter Parker's problems always were a big part of the comics appeal, but that only worked because it had Spidey's snark as contrast.

But then the "You found my weakness!" line. If there's more of that, I might actually overlook that they still don't dare to do random peanut gallery villains.

2012-05-04 11:35:27 AM
So it's obvious they are trying to "Nolanize" the franchise. I honestly didn't think it would work, and after the first teaser trailer I was convinced. But the second trailer sort of turned me around, and this one even more so. This actually looks pretty solid.

Probably goes without saying, but you know Green Goblin will be in the second one. They'll probably tease it like they did with Joker at the end of Batman Begins. He'll be mutated using some offshoot of Conner's lizard gas, and out to get Spider-Man for ruining Oscorp in this first movie. Question is whether or not they show that little incident with Gwen at the Brooklyn Bridge.

Dammit, I don't want to like this movie but trailers like this make me more and more interested in it!

I agree, but that's because Raimi let the studio meddle. He had almost complete control in 1 (awesome) and 2 (not quite as good, but way above 3). They forced him to do Venom, a character he never really liked for the movie, but he did it anyway. It was horrible.

When he started up on 4, Sony started to meddle again, this time pushing for 3D, which Raimi didn't want. He wanted to focus on making a good 4th movie to make up for the 3rd, not learning how to shoot in 3D. They wouldn't let it drop, so he walked. When he walked, the principle actors walked too (rumor has it Dunst and Maguire were only staying on for Raimi).

This Spider-Man plot reeks of studio meddling.

Spider-man went 30 years without any significant mention of Peter Parker's parents. 30 years. In 50 years of story-telling, they appeared in only a handful of comics. They are a non-factor in the story of Spider-man, but that's what the movie is about? It's just plain stupid.

This is the only part I think they got right (by the trailer at least). I don't like the look of the eyes on the mask though, they look to narrow...

I thought that was... amazing (doh ho ho), but I'm a huge Spider-Man fan so it's an easy sell for me.

It had humor, sciencey-geek teen Peter, Gwen, a dark and stylish New York, a cool looking suit, the action looked good, and it even had some recreations of classic Spider-Man action poses straight out of the comics. Story looked good and so did the acting, as well.

I am hyped.

So much this. Peter Parker's super power is ultimate sarcasm. Those spider powers are a side note. He's such a witty asshole to anyone he's fighting that they get angry, start making mistakes. I always liked that about spidey, he knew he couldn't win in a head on fight so really needed to use his smarts

i'm also with the mechanical web shooters, ups the baseline of how intelligent he really is. Peter Parker and the storyline from Spidey 3 is the intellectual equivalent of this image.
