Didn't have a run in with a bobcat (though they're in the area) but did have a run in with a coon a few minutes ago. Had to take some stuff to the dumpster and when I flipped the lid up, it was sitting right there. I cussed and it fell backwards and played dead. Don't know who spooked who more. As a peace offering, I gifted some left over pizza hut :)

Happy Caturday! Eli is a very warm kitteh! I let him out when I came home. Last seen lounging under the neighbors tree. Declined invite in. I suspect he will be me-out all night long.

bobcat fever was talked about on the FB Caturday page about a week ago (or so).
I contacted my vet to see if he had heard of it and if it was in our area yet. He did know about it but, luckily it had not shown up yet here. It is in west KY, though.
use a good flea/tick meds (Frontline) on any outside cats

I think the raccoon has you trained well! ;D My hubby had a run in with a bobcat when we lived near the Oregon coast. He was walking out to the work shop about 20 ft from the house and felt like something was watching him. He looked up-hill a little and there was a bobcat watching him. Nothing happened; they both just turned and continued on their way.

Yes, we are curled up in a stack of liquor boxes :p

Now I recalled what I wished to relate: associate recently acquired a black kitten to play with & keep company with older cat who's been there a while. Son took on painting her kitchen red.
You see this coming already. Not Long until there were red paw prints on a mostly white small rug. Not only paw-prints, but also bum prints, as kitten sat on paint can lid after she so carefully removed it (because she could). This was quite recent occurrence; assoc didn't say whether she had the patience to take pix or not. Nor how long it took to remove paint from black fur.

Guess they didn't need to do the lipstick test then....................

i feel like i can post this now, after all these years, and maybe you'll understand...

Cool bobcat story, when my daughter was at sixth grade camp she was in the woods learning to building an emergency shelter from a garbage bag and some sticks. She said she looked up and saw a bobcat sitting nearby watching her. I have always told my kids if you see a wild animal that is not acting normal to move away quietly and tell a grown up. So she went over to the bobcat and it allowed her to pet it. She said it had soft fur.
I questioned her to see if it was a real bobcat or just a pet main coon kitty. She told me that the people that ran the camp had raised an orphaned bobkitten in their home and it was their pet. They told her that it was very unusual for the cat to let anyone touch it. I still got after her about petting a wild animal that was out in daylight. She did not know at the time that it was a pet. Kids!

Li-Ion is just so danged adorable! He always seems to have such a wistful look on his face.

When I was a young teenager I freaked some people outside of the grocery store when I walked up to a station wagon with a pet mountain lion sitting across the front seat and gave it a little scritch behind the ear. I actually knew the people and the mountain lion, but the bystanders didn't know that. It was kind of fun.
