(YouTube)   When "The Pick of Destiny" was released it was a bomb, and all the critics said that The D was done. The sun had set and the chapter had closed, but one thing no one thought about was The D would rise again just like the phoenix   (youtube.com) divider line 44

This is why the D is awesome. If you can't laugh at yourself, you have no sense of humor.

Wasn't too bad for a new D song.

/who knows all the cameos?
//you know Grohl was in there somewhere

I'd like to see them at Red Rocks but I'm afraid there'll be a lot of poseurs and brosephs. Not original D fans like since the 90s on HBO type of D fans like myself.

I did miss them when they toured in the early 2000s. But by then they were a little bit too mainstream for my tastes.

Actually the joke was that they were rocking out on heavy metal songs using just an acoustic guitar. Once they turned into an actual heavy metal band what is the point?

I thought that bigfoot scene was pretty funny.

No. The joke has always been the lyrics. Listen to "fark Her Gently" and I dare you not to laugh. It has nothing to do with the instruments.

I'd like to hear D and Dethklock do a song together.

I see the joke more as two fat slobs pretending to be metal gods. And this new song isn't heavy metal, it's more like Meatloaf meets The Who.

/loved the songs from Pick of Destiny, but the movie was meh.

This. The only parts of the movie that are any good are the intro with Dio and the last song with the guy playing the devil. All the other songs were... middling to bad in video quality and let us never speak of the non musical bits again.

That guy was Dave Grohl again, albeit with much better demon makeup this time.

Not sure if serious.

The more one protests about hipsters, and how he was 'into them before they were cool'...

And the Devil was played by Dave Grohl

i too enjoy the D.

i was in an acoustic trio when i was at the us mission to nato in brussels. one of the sections was having a holiday party and invited employees of nato and other missions to come and drink and eat and enjoy themselves.

my band (i called us two knuckles and a toe but we didn't really have a name except, janet, john and darrell trio or something. we used to play our first set, take a small break and come back for a second one. to start the second one we would play fark her gently...as an instrumental. an acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, and mandolin just settling back in with this awesome song. you could see john in the back going along with it...trying to figure out what it was and then you could see the 'aha' moment when he knew what song it was.

to make it better, ambassador burns wife was at the party and after we were done she thanked us and told us she loved that song we started out second set was. it was so beautiful. she wanted to know the name of it. i had a spinal tap moment and just said ....love her gently. i had to say we wrote it because she wanted to go out and buy it.

Oh good farking god, they are coming to red rocks......what shiat. I really wanted to see Iron Maiden play there this tour for a good site to check them out, instead we have to drive to charlotte because they are playing the shiattiest atlanta venue ever.

Christ most of Red Rocks line up sucks this year.

Jack Black needs to stop talking like Jack Black when he's doing Tenacious D stuff. It's damn annoying. I get he's maybe-kinda doing a character of some kind, but you've been a panda, dude. The time for meta-humor in interviews is past.

That agrees with my original statement, because one they have become an actual rock band with guest performers and whatnot it took it away for me.

You are not alone. PoD is one of my top 10 all-time faves. Screw those self-important stick-up-the-ass critics. School of Rock was pretty darn good too.

Hey The Never Ending Story 3 was a masterpiece thanks to Jack Black's villainy.

If you want to hear some badass metal by a funny group of guys that actually wail then you need to listen to Red Fang. Hear any song, watch any video. They're killing

Red Fang:Prehistoric Dog

I've always like the D but the joke doesn't resonate much with me anymore. Still enjoy the older acoustic stuff because it was fun and good music.

Loved Pick of Destiny, and I hope there are people in this thread that played Brutal Legend. Awesome game.

This is not the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute.

I farking love PoD. I know musicians who watch it like its a Documentary. i only barely knew who the D were before the flick, and it made me a fan. So I hope there's beanbag chairs in the "shame" seat, and lets queue it up on the WMP.

/my musician friends did an acoustic cover of "tribute". Amazing
