Ugh - you've never had Swedish beer have you? Norrlands Guld is one example (and all the other horrible beers) of the Swedish style beer. All of them are terrible. All Swedes get German or Danish or any other export beer to drink at the state liquor stores.

You're allowed to buy and transport as much alcohol as you want between EU countries without having to pay additional import taxes/duties, as long as the booze is for personal consumption and not for resale. So it's not just Sweden, it's an EU thing.

In the Middle Ages, monks used to drink about a gallon and a half of beer every day, occasionally varying it with cider, wine, perry etc.
Poverty, chastity and obedience are a lot easier to take when you're half-cut most of the time.

In Sweden, you buy alcohol at state-controlled liquor stores, which are few and open short hours (they closed at 2pm on Saturdays when I was there as I recall).

come to switzerland, its even worse. mcdonalds meals are 12-15CHF, which is like 13-16USD

but back to TFA: 2357 liters of beer is 4714 pints, divided by 365 days in the year is just shy of 13pints a day. while this may well be his daily consumption, the court shouldve ruled he attend an alocholism programm.

I paid $15 for a Whopper Jr meal at a BK in Oslo a few months ago. No crap. And, it was a helluva lot cheaper than the $50 it would have cost me for the lunch special at TGI Friday's or O'Learys in Oslo

Americans and Canadians do not realize how super expensive things are in parts of Europe

I'd smuggle stuff, too, if I lived in Sweden, and especially Norway
