They had a pilot program like this in Canada but with dogs instead of cats. It seemed to be working well too. Another idea discussed was having inmates raise seeing eye dogs before they are old enough for the more intensive training.

They have programs like that for dogs all over the US. I think it's pretty neat. Pretty sad for the inmate when they have to give up the dogs after training though.

Let's hope those inmates do not get mentally scarred for life because of said kitty.

I'll confess that the show is a guilty pleasure for me. Plus, all those other cats make my cat seem perfect.

Hey, if it teaches cons and teaches kittehz, why not.

The "Cuddly Catz" program? That's gotta be a hard rep for an inmate to live down.

This is an awesome idea and one that should be fully supported. Animals are great at calming people. Calm people + prison = less violence. And the animals find a home with people that literally have no choice but to figure out how to live with them. No matter how crazy the cat is. :) Win/Win

Heh.

It's totally cheesy, but it would be kind of cool for JG to meet my cat and let me know what I do better as an owner.

/On a side note, I have to raise an eyebrow every time he refers to cat owners as "guardians".
//Oh....and any time they show a cat bullying a little rat dog, I root for the cat.

I support this 1000%. People who are actually positive for "corrections" should be paired with animals facing the same. This is so obvious that I'm shocked this is the first I've heard of it. This needs to become a global thing.

*Usually* the cons in 40 man dorms are there for a combination of good behavior and petty, nonviolent crimes. Those guys are the jaywalkers; the Charlie mansons get their own cell for their own and others safety.

FTFA: It wasn't awesome at the outset. She came as advertised, Contreras said - moody, dysfunctional and prone to violence. But the changes in his newest cellmate are evident.

Huh, I wonder if I can enroll my cat.

There's a juvenile center in my state that does this as well. Most of the dogs graduate and go on to good loving homes. The dogs are well trained and socialized by the time they come out of the program. The kids in the program have an extremely low recidivism rate as well.

My cousin's dog came from a similar program. Was placed in the prison where the inmates did basic obedience and once they graduate, the dogs go back to the rescue agency for adoption. Its also a win for the prisoners because they are learning something they can use on the outside.

Dog is well behaved to. Only problem is he thinks he can take any sized dog but he's a weiner dog mix. Then again, I think its a weiner dog thing.

/dog is scared of my cat that's like 1/3 his size though!
