If you're getting thrown out anyway, might as well make it count, amirite?

Why not get your money's worth? Hell, maybe take out a few parents while you're at it.

I hope the little puke is brought up on charges. That's a clear cut case of assault. He can't cry and say it was just an accident on the field.

Pity you can't also charge parents for raising an asshole.

Typical thug behavior that's becoming more and more common in sports today....especially in the NBA.

I think the story here is that high school lacrosse is being played in Florida. On the one hand, I'm happy it's expanding because it's a great game. On the other hand, this is the one sport where Long Island is a powerhouse and it would be nice to not lose that.

Seriously though, what the fark, guy?

This is clearly the result of playing too many video games. I mean, one minute you're zerg-rushing a Protoss expansion base and the next thing you know you just have to punch every opposing player on the lacrosse team. It isn't his fault! He was conditioned to behave like this!

Because the first one might get you a suspension but probably not too much more since it was arguably during the course of play, but the second one will be criminal charges and a civil suit for battery.

One guy on our JV team got ejected from the league after punching too many people. The incidents spanned several games. The Coup de grâce came on game where instead of picking up a ground ball and running with it, he chose to defend it like a gladiator and crosscheck the 4 guys on the other team who dared go near it. Then their coach charged on from the sidelines screaming and he turned around and cross checked the coach back into his team. As the refs were figure out what to do, he had already taken off his helmet and gloves, put them on his stick, and was halfway back to the locker room. Essentially, he kicked himself out of the game, afterwards the coach had to kick him off the team.

I fondly recall several bench clearing brawls in my playing days

The craziest was started by a member of my team, the two guys squared off on eachother pushing and shoving etc, The kid on my team decided the best thing to do was use his stick to essentially stab the kid in the throat (using the basket end).

That cleared the benches right quick.

The best part about this was our school was hosting the round robin tournament at the beginning of the season, so the games didn't even count

I think he might have been ejected from the game but he definitely didn't get suspended from sports etc.

Fun times.

HS lacrosse can be brutal. You have really young / small kids playing with a mix of soccer players and football players. The size differences can be very big.

Not only that, but it's very much a contact sport. I consider it an hockey to be far more contact than football, you're constantly in someone's face, pressuring them, hounding them, it wold be enough to make even best friends get into fights. People make fun of lacrosse all the time, but I think that it and hockey are more physical in-your-face than any of the other sports, then probably rugby, then football. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to play lacrosse, be totally exhausted when you're done, and probably hate people you've been friends with your whole life by the end of the game.

I loved playing all sports against my friends. Not too many instances where you get to kick the crap out of your best friends and it is expected.

Lacrosse is very much like hockey. I think that is why there tend to be a lot of fights in lacrosse. It can get heated quick, there are sticks involved, people are getting hacked and slashed and butt ended etc. and not much equipment.

It is a great sport, never really liked them adding a shot clock tho.

I didn't see a flop, I saw dollar signs. The civil suit will be good for up to 10 grand, easy.

THIS

Not taking anything from the sheer dick-ish-ness displayed by the player exiting, but c'mon... that was a dive like you'd see from a Portuguese soccer player.

As a NYer I agree. But....

There are a lot of transplants from L.I., upstate NY and Maryland. It's only a matter of time until a lot of the best lax recruits will be from Florida. See: HS Football.

Not sure about a punch, but I will say from experience that the face mask is actually the least painful place to get hit with a shot since it's the one spot where you're really well-padded. Once in practice I got hit on the ankle by a shot from our big, hardest-shooting attackman. I wasn't injured but it hurt like a motherfarker. I have no idea how goalies do it.

Actually, my not being sure about a punch isn't entirely accurate as there may or may not have been some helmet-and-gloves boxing sessions in the locker room at the end of the season. But with those you know it's coming.

The team did end up losing 20-6, and got outscored 5-1 after the incident. I'd say the option to keep playing was actually the more embarrassing of the two options.

That's only in some versions of lax. Most high school varsity field lax programs don't have a shot clock. Depending on the league, they may have a time limit to get into the box, but a shot clock is rarely seen in high school lax. If you're playing a version of indoor, yes, but indoor is usually a club sport.

As to fighting in lax, you can go a whole season with the top lax teams and not see a single fight or brawl. There's much more of it at the levels below varsity lax, but if your team is truly a good team that stuff rarely happens. Most of the time when I've seen punches thrown it's been a situation where one team was completely outclassed and frustrated.

The lads are playing for schools that have "saint" in their names. Obviously the pressure to live up to such high standards is causing Traumatic Violence Disorder in these poor children.

Come on where are the people defending this guy. It's sports...you have to expect this kind of thing, right? Come on, where are you folks that were all over defending that baseball player who took out that unsuspecting runner at 2nd.
