that seems like one of those things where someone with the technical skill to do it probably already knew how to do it.

now where's the fun in that? every idiot with an ebay account and a head cold wants in on the world destroying actions of the elite. And now, thanks to the joys of internet communications, they can have the same levels of fun as the lab coated madmen!

You know, it wasn't fair that we were keeping methods of obliterating mankind in the hands of the 1% of ivory-tower egghead elites. I've always thought it wasn't fair that we only released stuff like this to evil people that already had earned their doctorate. This opens up the door to letting the little guy try his hand at global pandemic for a change. I, for one, applaud the decision.

Seems like pointing out which studies are sensitive turns a terrorsts' finding a needle in a haystack into a fill-in-the-blank exercise. There's no way a non-scientist would know which publications are sensitive information if they're not highlighted as such. If there was a system of scientific censorship, the biosciences equivalent of an A.Q. Khan would probably be among the trusted people with access to the information, or be capable of independently filling in the blanks.

Someone doesn't have to weaponize the bird flu. The birds are doing that.

Yeah. And still be living in the dark ages where Walter Cronkite tells us exactly what we need to know, nothing more and nothing less.

No thanks, I'll take free and open exchange of ideas and information between all people big and small with the chance of catching the flu over the former any day of the week.

2012-05-03 03:05:05 PM
ah yes, rather than researching and understanding the bird flu, it's far better to just stick our fingers in our ears and yell "LALALALALALA" and completely ignore it. that will definitely be what keeps us safe.

Did Fox News have no other method of fear mongering today?

Bird Flu in its current form if pretty deadly to humans - about 60% of the people who catch it, die. Fortunatly, it doesn't spread very easily among humans.

But the thing about the ful, is it mutates all of the time. That's why your doctor wants you to get a flu shot every year (last years flu is very differnt from this years ful).

So because the flu keeps evolving, there is a very real concern that bird flu will mutate into a form that does spred among humans,

So it maybe a good idea to see what happens to bird flu that can spread among mammals.

Bah...and terrorists getting together sharing ideas. Kids being stalked by perverts. People learning to assemble bombs. A million ways to get high from household items. How to get away with murder. How to kill silently. How to jack off all day and night. How to rape and get away with it. How to easily cheat on your wife and websites devoted specifically to it. Kids watching porn at 10 and being addicted. Where to buy pills. How to get and inject steroids....god somebody stop me....how to break into and disassemble alarm systems, child porn, bestiality, necrophilia...aaahahhahahahahahaha..

....oh and I long for the days where I don't have to invest half my waking hours to play a farking video game

Well we can be sure not too many terrorists can dice and splice genes but i'm sure some governments (iran) will be all over this asap...then try to invade them ;with their present weapons they could spread this all over the near east.

/ I always loved that story....

Until someone invents a universal flu vaccine, there will be flu pandemics every so often whether we like it or not. Influenza is just too good at adapting for cross-species infection. Influenza won't have to be "weaponized" because people will spread it either way.

The good news? We're a lot better at dealing with these things now more than ever. So, let's take it with a grain of salt when the journalists get all fussed about doomsday viruses and so forth.

Or start the Zombie plague. I believe they skip over that in most movies, so I just assume some toddler was the first to spread it.

It's okay. Our first line of defense against terrorism is the TSA. They will pat down the birds and confiscate their flu.
