Satanic_Hamster: Where does Rush think the diary came from? Doesn't Rush have any sort of managers or preppers? I know he's a bullshiat artist but does ANYONE do any sort of fact checking for him?

They don't need to. They don't let anyone on the air with him that would disagree with him.

It's really quite telling that the last couple of manufactured outrage events by the GOP have involved things Obama has openly disclosed in books he's written which have been out for years now.

Equally telling is how even with his words in print they still manage to distort reality.

Anybody ever read the book Schindler's List and then watch the movie and note the number of composite characters that appeared in order to tighten up the storyline?

Anybody remember feeling particularly outraged at that?

Yeah, didn't think so.

rufus-t-firefly: Hey, at least BillCo is admitting that Obama wrote it, rather than Ayers.

The book was published in 1995 and has sold over 4.5 million copies. Yet they just now got around to reading it. However, they neglected to read the foreword, and they just discovered the girlfriend, just like how they just recently noticed the bit about eating dog meat as a child.

Sorry, kids - that homework is 4 years late. You still get a 0.

At their current reading speed, they should be through with his first book and on to his second one by some time in 2015.

Muta: While the Romney campaign is talking about a composite girlfriend, Obama is talking about student loans, killing bin Laden and improving economic growth.

None of which matters, not when you can turn public opinion by using salacious comments and disingenuous headlines to feed an army of folks who can't be bothered to read an entire article, never mind the book on which the article's based.

You can talk about benefitting society all day, but if you're in front of a room of racists and someone screams "you're a lying, half-black, secret Muslim socialist who digs white women," well, you're not getting out of there alive, and that's fine by the GOP. The GOP mobilized racists and idiots four years ago, and called them to their breast, and then sent them out to ravage the political landscape.

This is just meant to keep them fed.

Do you actually think that sounds deep or profound or anything other than pants-shiatting dick in the toaster retarded?

Hmmmmm - that coming from the author of such literary gems as:

"So did the cancer make her colorblind and retarded?" and
"Don't worry about pissing off the Paultards"
and let's not forget for latest effort:
"Do you actually think that sounds deep or profound or anything other than pants-shiatting dick in the toaster retarded."

Well you most certainly get a lot of milage out using "retard" and variations of it. Your Mommy must be proud.

The public doesn't care about this bullsh*t. Only people who watch Fox News and read Politico. That's actually not all that big a number. More people watch Sponge Bob Square Pants every day than watch Fox News.

Same thing with Raging Bull. That was an autobiography and Jake LaMotta's brother was re-written as a composite of 3 people.

Technically that isn't an autobiography then, it's an autobiographical novel.

Yeah, I totally can't imagine why Obama would not want to use the real names of all his ex-girlfriends in a book coming out while he's still active in politics./snark>

I don't disagree with him. I think the insult to the local deli is, in and of itself, a frivolous stupid incident to get worked up about. When viewed in the context of Rmoney being an out-of-touch rich guy however it snaps into focus as further evidence of this image. Meaningless by itself, but one more straw upon the camel in the big picture.

This little thing is below the level of non-incident, its completely manufactured since Obama stated he used composite characters in the first edition of the book. It should have just been retracted all together because all it truly indicates is the sheer absolute sorrowful state to which fact-checking has fallen.

It means that the story (or "article," if you will) was published by the website (at the very least) of the well known magazine "The Atlantic." What the point of that purely factual observation that can clearly be derived by looking at the fark icon for this story is, I have no clue.

Paul Baumer: I actually had a bit of an email exchange with Byers about this. I asked why this did noe merit a retraction rather than a correction. His contention was that "Genevive was his New York girlfriend" was not previously mentioned and therefore constituted a newsworthy addition to the public record. He was very quick to reply, although I too found the placement of the correction/update to be pretty weak, and the rationale certainly has an "after the fact" ring to it.

His tweet from yesterday is pretty defensive though - not to mention moronic:

@DylanByers: Quick question: Prior to reading Maraniss's Vanity Fair piece, how many people knew the New York girlfriend, specifically, was a composite?

Well, there's the hostess at IHOP. She keeps him abreast of all things rooty, tooty, fresh and fruity.

Then there's the pool-boy banana-hammock inspector. Rush likes his cabana boys to be perky but not overly virile (the spry ones keep running away, you see).

And then there's also his drug dealer doctor. There have been some stunning advances in the Oxy industry that N0bama just simply doesn't want us to know about. Rush and his people are on top of it, however.

I keep hearing about how pretentious Obama is in his letter on Eliot's "The Waste Land."

Despite Obama's purpose prose, the rest of what he says is probably fairly standard literary criticism. He doesn't say anything new, but it's not like he's wrong. Maybe some people just think all literary criticism is "pretentious." (Hint: it's not pretentious if you actually know what you're doing.)
