So, the left spin on this is that Obama was writing a novel, not an auto-biography. Well, now it all makes sense, the Messiah would never lie.

BillCo: So, the left spin on this is that Obama was writing a novel, not an auto-biography. Well, now it all makes sense, the Messiah would never lie.

You mean Politico/Drudge's spin on this, since Obama said he was using composite characters in the beginning of his first edition of his book, and somehow the retarded fact-checkers missed or overlooked that, leaving people of similar intelligence such as yourself to eat up their crap, right?

Hey, people lie...

I think I am more outraged by Ann's $900 bird shirt than Obama's composite white girlfriend.

So long as conservatives don't have to read a book themselves. God only knows how the the brain cells that survived years of methamphetamine abuse would fare against a book that didn't have a coloring section.

Her shirt is a bird. Your argument is invalid.

What's the big deal? I had several "composite" girlfriends back in college...all from Canada.

Having "spin" implies that something actually took place, other than the mere fact that Dylan Byers filed a story based on a wild-ass assumption and the right wing trolls immediately ran with it without bothering to fact check it.

Between this and the dog...

Republicans, do you SERIOUSLY think that dragging things from his book *NOW* and acting like they're breaking news is a winning issue? The book has been out what, twenty years? You really want to admit that despite obsessing about Obama for three years you're only just now getting around to read the book, and even then, you're barely only skimming it?

Maybe they should put out a version with pictures for them.

Goodness, it has truly ignited the twitfacenet.

Most of the people being critical of the book's facts, in the media and citizens, have never read the book. Sun-Tzu failure for not even bothering to try to know your enemy. Maybe Obama will release a coloring book that they may actually pick up and be able to get through. Until they get to know Obama and why his appeal is what it is, they'll continue to seem the polar opposite and continue to fail at dislodging him.

"This laxity and haste makes Politico look like a partisan operation like the Daily Caller -- which it's not (ironically, Byers proudly noted just this week how centrist Politico's audience is.)."

It's not?

I would think that the fact that I hang around Fark.com would make the answer to that question self evident.

Who would have thought that the GOP would be grasping at straws THIS early in the campaign? The fact that eating dog, being "too cool", and this non-story have gotten so much play really gives you a feel for how uncertain they are going into November.

It's like they're just randomly flinging shiat everywhere and hoping SOMETHING will stick.

Nope, it's even better. For knowledge, you acutally have to do something. Ignorance lets you sit on your ass and let whatever diarrhea comes out of your mouth/keyboard spew out and be considered the other side of the argument as if it were just as valid as an informed opinion.

So it's an autobiographical novel not an autobiography. Ok. Who cares really?

2012-05-03 09:07:55 AM
I actually had a bit of an email exchange with Byers about this. I asked why this did noe merit a retraction rather than a correction. His contention was that "Genevive was his New York girlfriend" was not previously mentioned and therefore constituted a newsworthy addition to the public record. He was very quick to reply, although I too found the placement of the correction/update to be pretty weak, and the rationale certainly has an "after the fact" ring to it.

Politico media reporter Dylan Byers wrote a post: "biographer David Maraniss [...]managed to contact Genevieve Cook, who dated the future president at Columbia University, and she turned over her diary to him."

Rush Limbaugh cited Byers' item extensively on the air on Wednesday: "You know, he invents this Genevieve babe and people can't find her. She didn't exist."

rudemix: Until they get to know Obama and why his appeal is what it is, they'll continue to seem the polar opposite and continue to fail at dislodging him.

Obama does two things real well. The first is he plays rope-a-dope real well. He'll let the other guy get a jab or two in before he punches back. It works well when campaigning because his response is usually well targeted and potent. He also knows how to stay away from the silliness. While the Romney campaign is talking about a composite girlfriend, Obama is talking about student loans, killing bin Laden and improving economic growth.

Hey, at least BillCo is admitting that Obama wrote it, rather than Ayers.

The book was published in 1995 and has sold over 4.5 million copies. Yet they just now got around to reading it. However, they neglected to read the foreword, and they just discovered the girlfriend, just like how they just recently noticed the bit about eating dog meat as a child.

Sorry, kids - that homework is 4 years late. You still get a 0.
