Ok, so he was expelled for protesting how his University supported the pastor that supported some rapist. Amongst other "librul" things he did.

Do I have that right?

He's wearing a Hollister shirt, the expulsion is justified.

I feel bad for this kid, but what do you expect at that school?

Does anyone know if they get govt money?

Unless he's going to school on his own dime, he should have waited until AFTER he graduated to protest.

He was expelled when he was caught being black?

Someone voluntarily chose to go to Bob Jones University, then proceeds to complain about being treated unjustly? It's farking Bob Jones University!

They knew what they were signing up for, it just happened to bite THEM in the ass, rather than them doing the biting. Anyone who chooses to attend such an institution needs to have their head thoroughly examined; conversely, they also get what they deserve.

Pretty much this, with the addition that the student is better off having been bounced out of this idiot mill.

Did you RTFA? Bob Jones didn't expel him for watching Glee, they expelled him for protesting the university's support of a pastor who covered for someone in his congregation who raped a child.

You're assuming it was a choice. For a lot of kids who attend "schools" like this, it isn't. A lot of them are forced into it due to family pressure and years of brainwashing.

To those complaining about being kicked out of BJU,

I'm glad you take some of the blame for getting kicked out, but what about the blame for CHOOSING this horrible college in the first place? Whether or not you got kicked out, your money is what makes it possible for them to continue this behavior.

You had a choice of colleges. You picked the one that anyone with access to Google could learn was the least desirable and more heinous choice. You refer to it as "fundyland", but what were you, if not a fundamentalist, to consciously choose to give your money and time to a place that treats human beings this way, supports causes that are unethical, and exists primarily to indoctrinate you (or support your pre-existing indoctrination) into fundamentalist obnoxiousness?

I don't feel sorry for ANYONE who gets kicked out of BJU, because you were ignorant enough to apply and support them in the first place. You made it possible for them to be what they are.

Unless you had no choice, and your parents forced you to go, I can't feel bad that you got screwed over in the process of going to a school that you knew teaches students to screw over everyone else.

I enjoy watching Glee because it's rediculous and I can fast forward through any songs I don't enjoy.

I think this is an abuse of the "about that" meme.

That being said, I agree with the "You are the dumbass who went to BJU, what did you expect" sentiment.

2012-05-03 10:31:13 AM
While I applaud Glee-watching Guy for growing a conscience and protesting the abhorrent actions of BJU, I can't muster up much sympathy for him. He should have known better. The fact that BJU is run by a pack of raging assholes is not exactly top-secret information.

Anyone who makes the choice to give their money to those festering fistulas deserves whatever they get.

Based on casual observation of my girlfriend, the average episode of Glee is 37 seconds long once you fast forward any music that sucks and any jokes that aren't funny. Once you skip that, it becomes a terrifying morality tale about a closet lesbian trapped in a downward spiral of substance abuse and depression being forced to be a high school faculty member during her slow descent into madness.

Just imagine, if they could manage to find bullshiat weasel-speak dog-whistle reasons to expel all of them, Bob Jones could single-handidly create an entire generation of actually sane Republicans when they all self-realize what the results of that sort of extremist pandering socio-political warfare feels like. Kidding, most of them would probably just decide to double-down on crazy.

A lot of you are missing the point: it's not about whether or not he had a choice to go to this school, or that he got kicked out: it's that the school supports someone who is known to have covered up for a known child molestor and he got kicked out for protesting it. I have a really hard time ragging on the guy for doing the right thing.

If he were brainwashed, he wouldn't complain. He'd just be a sinner deserving his judgment.

If he suddenly realized he had been brainwashed, he shouldn't expect fairness out of a place he was sent because he was brainwashed.

Yep. They're well known in the area not only for the strict code of conduct, but also for ostracizing those who don't agree with the official line. This isn't limited to criticizing policy, but also expressing any support anything that isn't the official theological line (e.g. "there are things I think might be worthwhile in Calvinism", "perhaps we can recognize baptism from other churches", "Catholics aren't all bad").

I suspect the young man made the mistake of thinking that he wasn't engaging in this sort of criticism and that the powers that be there might actually be interested in justice and doing the right thing rather than just maintaining their little hegemony.

When I was in Greenville public schools many years ago, the elementary school yard chant poking fun at them, on the rare occasions the subject came up, was
BJU,
We don't smoke,
We don't chew,
We don't go with the girls who do!
Go, BJU!

I assume the "We don't smoke" extends to pole-smoking.

I would lay odds at 7% that your son is gay versus 93% that he likes hotties dancing in revealing outfits.

liam76: I feel bad for this kid, but what do you expect at that school?

Oh, yes. Sadly. They are accredited by TRACS, which basically accredits for-profit bible schools. Lamar Alexander approved them as an accreditation body in 1991, even though they were turned down in 1987 and he was advised against it. Surprisingly, their tuition is pretty low. Students are eligible for all regular federal student aid (even though the money is probably atheistic and soshulist).

Also, Bob Jones University should come with a warning in their contract that you have to sign:

"WARNING: YOU ARE ABOUT TO ATTEND BOB JONES UNIVERSITY, FULL OF BATshiat CRAZIES AND MONEY-GRUBBING DICK-SUCKING PSYCHOPATHS"

I'm not ragging on the kid for doing the right thing. Of course, any human being with any shred of decency would stand up against a child predator.

That being said, expecting an institution like that to NOT cover for one of it's own is ludicrous. Hell, they were diddling kids at Penn State for decades and it flew under the radar. If sick people manage to protect their own for that long at public, land-grant institutions like that (which are most definitely NOT supposed to operate that way, even though they do anyway), the kid's probably lucky all they did is expel him at BJU.

He was protesting against the minister who judged the victim to be at fault and make her apologize. He wanted a BJU staffer removed.

BJU doesn't work that way. BJU is where people learn to be more judgmental of others, not themselves.

Having said that, Glee isn't gay enough yet. It should have an all gay tranny cast playing gay trannies singing show tunes about being gay. Oh wait, they do that already.

4 chicks isn't enough to change the stigma of a musical for a meat eating male. It is a musical after all, which rates just above male mascara in the masculinity department. I think most guys realize they don't have to sit through 50 minutes of chicks and pansies singing to see a couple attractive women.

yeah, that's just about how I handicap it too: On the one hand he's a starting nose tackle on the HS football team, on the other he's into chorus and theatre and almost got the "Tracy's Mom" role in Hairspray. and would have been okay with it (instead he has all three "male authority figure" roles).

So, it could be possible (and I'd be okay with that) but more likely he's just taking that whole speech I gave to him about liberal arts and being a Rennaisance Man to heart.

This is why the "Glee is turning our kids gay" one of the more stupid beliefs around lately. Not only is the show filled with hot female eye candy, all the gay kids are bullied, harrassed, picked on, and in one instance, driven close to suicide. How the hell is that supposed to make an otherwise straight high schooler want to be gay.

Counterpoint:

He knowingly went to a school known for supporting morally repugnant individuals and then got upset about one such instance.
