Still, one would think that leaving a phone in the hands of a Best Buy employee would safeguard a person from such pranks

Yes, who would expect such a thing from the steely-eyed professionals at Best Buy?

Amusing indeed.

Best Buy employees are awful. RIP Circuit City.

2012-05-03 08:42:46 AM
Well, not every Best Buy employee has the vast experience and intensive, hands-on training of a Geek Squad member. This guy's mistake was probably leaving his phone in the hands of a regular Best Buy employee, and some of those guys aren't supremely well qualified. It's like the bin Laden raid, really -- Obama could have assembled a strike team from regular Army members, and possibly 2 in 4 of them would have been really able to carry out the mission. Maybe 3 in 4. By choosing SEALs, though, it's pretty much 4 in 4. Geek Squad are the SEALs of Best Buy.

Who goes to Best Buy to have anything repaired anyway? Buying a new phone.. fine even though they messed my plan up and I had to contact AT&T to have them put people back onto my family plan. Never have any of them try and repair something. I know a kid that is our Best Buy's tablet go to person and he can't even root his own tablet. He bricked it and had to go and get a new one.

Hardly trolled, since I have no passionate stance on this issue. I just thought it weird that it seemed he had a high opinion of Geek Squad. I wondered if he knew something I didn't.

Yeah, there are worse things in the world to have people assume about your character other than being gay. I was a bit insulted by that remark, but not surprised. For many men, nothing is considered a worse insult than to be thought of as less than a man, which is what people think of homosexuality.

To be fair, he's not homosexual. He now has to explain that to everybody that wants to make a big deal out of it, and since something like that is an inherently private matter to begin with unless you choose to make it public it's easy to see how he could think those things.

What?

To say to the world after people think you may be gay when you're not, "I feel I've been humiliated, you know, I mean, my reputation has been tarnished," is being a prick. His 'reputation has been tarnished,' by people thinking he might be gay? Fark off, man.

They're holding out for a larger settlement, I'm sure. Depending on whether the state has passed anti-cyberbullying laws, it could get pretty big.

I know of the famous Pocket Ninja. I wouldn't call him/her a troll, because his posts are always meant to be mutually enjoyed by all as humorous, from what I can tell.

But! I have seen him/her post seriously on a rare occasion. It is very rare, but it has happened. Which is why I was wondering about this particular post.

I keep really hoping Grables'Daughter, is gay, and then I remember I don't really care, because in my head, every woman is at least a little gay.

Speaking as a geek, I hate the term "Geek Squad." Look, a-holes, geek is our word. We earned it by surviving our unpopular, awkward teen years. Now we can use the term with pride. But only because we earned it.

You can't just stick a blue shirt on your employee and call him a "geek." That disrespects my people's heritage. What's next, a music store with a n-word patrol?

FTFA: "I feel I've been humiliated, you know, I mean, my reputation has been tarnished," he said.

What an asshole. And a homophobe. I wouldn't have worried about it. Once ran into an old high school friend in another city and we decided to have a couple of drinks and catch up. He asked me if I had a partner. I didn't know what he was talking about and he had told me that there'd been a rumor for years in my hometown that I had come out as gay. I just laughed. I told him I wasn't gay and asked him if it would make a difference if I were. He said he'd be pissed and would want to know who had started the rumor. I told him I couldn't care less. If people want to believe I'm gay, what do I care?

That's going out in a blaze of innapropriately hilarious glory, Mr. Ex-Best Buy Employee.

Also, since this company did take corrective action in firing the guy, I'm not sure a suin' will amount to anything.

The rare good thing I have to say about Best buy is that when upgrading phones all rebates happen at the transaction, not a month down the road.

The probably talked the poor bastard into their warranty plan as well, hence leaving ti there to be repaired.

No thought to just publishing a comment on FB... stupid Best Buy guy.. I AM NOT GAY but I have learned to log out of FB now.

Bet that would have stopped those calls pretty quick. also.. why are you FB friends with your ex spouse and a whole bunch of other people you have not talked to in years? But more importantly, aint it nice that they finally called and talked to you? You should be paying this guy for renewing all your relationships.
