I vote for Ron Paul's wife for Republican First Lady, but only because I want Mitt Romney to be forced into the position of having to fark her

Pincy: So did Mitt get the matching sweatshirt of wolves baying at the moon?

I'm sure he'd wear that in public, if he thought it would get him votes.

TheJoe03: stoli n coke: Don't worry about pissing off the Paultards. Most only like him because they think he'd legalize pot.

Most people I know that like him only know he want to legalize weed, end the wars, and promote civil rights (other than abortion apparently), I don't think most of them know how crazy his views are on economics, basically an ideology that would butt rape our economy and tank our country.

Pretty much, yea.

Alphax: On the plus side, that $990 that the Romneys parted with to go back into the economy. Enough for 2 paychecks for full time employees.

Or 50 children in China making them.

Genevieve Marie: It's also funny how they treat him, a lifelong Republican, like he's some sort of progressive independent.

The one thing you can't knock Ron Paul for is his consistency and independence, Dubya and the GOP tried very hard to get rid of him in the primaries. As far as members of either party, he's probably one of the most independent party members I've seen.

I worked retail, I always loved when rich people bought ridiculous stuff like that because it helped pad my commission check.

Not presidential primaries but when he was running for his congressional seat sometime in the early half of the 00s.

Perhaps. Though I find it hard to put the $990 price tag, and Chinese child labor mass production together. Not enough demand at that price.

Hobodeluxe: Ann just looks like she should be one of Roger Aile's bimbos

Yes, she does have that Stepford like quality to her, but just like every other republican prop-wife, she doesn't give a care what you plebes think. Funny part is that that shirt was probably designed by a gay guy and they in no way have an agenda against Trend Setters like her, i.e. making them buy stupid stuff to wear in public to make fools of themselves because they buy into the latest trends because her stylist(who is coincidentally also gay) told her it would be a good idea. I'm sure she got a few "You go gurl's" on the way out of the house while wearing that. Suck on that you duffle-bag wearing libs!

Wow, I didn't realize he was an OB/GYN. That may be one of the most disgusting things I've learned in quite a while. So did he also create his own board of certification and certify himself as the only member?

I would have laughed but no, I don't think he took it that far. But yea, every time he says something gross about women's health it bugs me more than any other gross politician because... the dude knows better. Or should know better. And he doesn't give two shiats.

They probably get made in the same factory as production runs for Wal-Mart or K-Mart. TFA indicates that the shirt was probably bought at Saks or Neiman Marcus, in order to have enough inventory to supply nationwide department store chains they're going to be doing big enough production runs that China makes sense. When I lived in Hanoi I'd go to "made in Vietnam" tent sales where they'd sell factory overruns--they were pulling Abercrombie and K-Mart out of boxes with the same factory labels on them, only difference was the USD price on the tags and the designs.

She was robbed if she dropped more than 20 bucks for that top.
But look at it this way....
She throws $990 around like the rest of us would throw $20 around, and had no taste.

I thought it was a fish too.

They have money, they're allowed to buy expensive shirts. I have trouble spending $29 on a shirt, I can't imagine spending $900, but I might spend frivolously if I was a multi-millionaire too.

Would you buy that shirt at any price?

Just imagine Diane Sawyer wearing a shirt like that while anchoring the news.

2012-05-03 03:32:01 AM
It's a pretty hip shirt, actually, but meant for a younger woman, and not a great choice to wear for a TV interview.

She should take a hint from the new princess or duchess or whatever she is in England - Kate - who my Brit friends tell me is buying more affordable clothing so as not to appear so hoity-toity.

Not really. That's the sort of shirt that's only ever worn by women of a certain age who have more money than good taste.

Bucky Katt: Would you buy that shirt at any price?

Nope. In fact you couldn't pay me to wear that shirt.

For $990 dollars, you'd think the designer wouldn't place the bird's eye where it appears to be a deformedly misplaced nipple.

Bathia_Mapes: GAT_00: I don't care what she buys either. Doesn't mean I can't make fun of it if it looks farking terrible, does it?

Same here. That's a freakin' ugly shirt.

My first thought was "For 990 bucks she couldn't have gotten a single sparkly tear?"

/Second thought? Wotta weird looking eagle.

So is this actually a story? And if so what kind of story is it?

Is it supposed to play into the RW "OMG, look at those evil libs playing class warfare by pointing out how much AR's shirt cost!11!" narrative as well as the LW "the Romney's are elite, out of touch, silver spooners" narrative?

Meh, ugly shirt is ugly but it's cost is hardly worth mentioning.

/Unlike 400 haircuts and the costs of First Family vacations, apparently.

2012-05-03 04:01:29 AM
I spent way too much time trying to decide whether that was a bird or a fish. I even briefly considered that it may be a platypus. Whatever it is, it's not something anyone should be wearing in a televised interview in which they want to be taken seriously.

2012-05-03 04:02:13 AM
400 dollar haircuts.

Accidentally the whole thing.

What percentage of your income do you give to charity? How much time do you spend with your kids? Would you give up alcohol just to be a better person? Maybe she is a tiny little bit better than you.

Charity?

Wanna rephrase that?

Here, lemme try.

What insanely large sum of monies (mostly in the form of stock garnered through Bain) are the Romney's compelled to tithe to their cult like church every year?

See also: How many millions did said cult like church (that the Romney's are leaders in) give over to a propaganda campaign against civil rights for gay citizens in California last year?

For extra points: "Anybody imagine for even a split second that Romney's run in 2012 here and his need to appeal to the RW fundie base wasn't factored into that decision to support Prop H8?"

TL,DR?

Ann Romney is not better than me.

But we were talking about shirts, right?

Bottom line? Politics is perception on many significant levels.

Ann Romney, Mitt's stated "go to" gal on appealing to the lady voters (who seem to have taken a sudden, massive aversion to the GOP this electoral cycle for some reason) appearing on a morning talk show in a 1000 dollar shirt does rather posit the question "Is that fashion choice a good decision in terms of connecting with the moderate and independent votes than win elections?"

My take? No, not particularly.

YMMV, of course.

Dunno.

When I shop for an item, I don't only ask myself if I can afford it. I also ask if whoever is selling deserves it.

I can afford fifty dollars for pancakes. Nobody deserves fifty dollars for pancakes.

Her personal shopper probably bought the shirt, so Ann didn't really know what it cost. Just a drop in the monthly household budget.

Her advisor probably looked at the shirt and thought, "Good. That probably came from the Gap for $40."

Ann and Mitt promised to marry each when Mitt was a senior in high school.

While he was doing his missionary work in France, she started dating another guy, and even sent Mitt a "Dear John" letter.

He pleaded with her to wait. She finally gave in and they were married when he returned to France.

She's never worked a day in her life.

I'm not knocking her, these are facts. I'm just saying... it sounds like she's a real peach.
