The Tao of Wu by RZA is also a fun read, even if it's obviously biased towards the RZA.

I remember 1996 a continual soundtrack of Outkast and Wu-Tang's various spinoffs at pretty much every party I went to. Well, every party that was any good.

I heard Dave Matthew's Band at a lot of parties that year too. Zzzzzzzzzz.

The wu is without a doubt, my favorite of all time. GZA made classics. Liquid Swords? one of the greatest ever. Raekwon made classics. Inspectah Deck made classics. I mean I cant count how many of these guys' solo albums that I just love. And 36 chambers/Forever are classics in their own right.

From the slums of Shaolin, Wu-Tang Clan strikes again
The RZA, the GZA, Ol Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef
U-God, Ghost Face Killer and the Method Man

And Wu-Tang hasn't gone anywhere, they're just waiting.....

This. It was a very interesting time when 36 Chambers came out: West Coast rap dominated the airwaves, East Coast rap was an afterthought. If it wasn't Dre releasing it was 2pac, etc. Then 36 Chambers dropped and it was like....mindblowing. Wu-Tang not only flying the flag for Staten Island but for the whole East Coast rap scene; like they were saying "East Coast ain't dead yet, we just evolved into THIS sound."

/Still hates the whole East/West BS that happened sometime after

CSB:

I was in HS when Wu-Tang Clan released their first album, and became a fan. This was back when the internet was fairly new, as far as widespread use went. I was an AOL user at the time (I know, save it) and chatrooms were a big thing on there. Under the music section they promoted a live chat with the Gravediggaz, RZA's side group. They said "the first 5 people to submit a question get an autographed picture of the group." Thinking that was total crap, I went ahead and sent in a question. There were like 10 people total in the chat. Sure enough, 2 weeks later, the autographed picture arrived in the mail. Pretty much sold me on the power of the internet.

I went to see them in concert a few years ago. It was awesome, but not having either ODB or Meth on stage definitely took something out of the show.

But the Wu has always been too slammin for these Cold Killin labels.

Hell yes to all of that.

And my CSB: I used to work with this really tall, gorgeous "sistah" in a knife store in the mall here in the DC suburbs. She was always talking about how she was buddies with "Meth" and always hanging out with him. How he'd hang out with her, the Wu-Tang guys and other famous rap/hip-hop stars, and they were just friends and he was very respectful of herself and other women.

We always figured she was full of shiat, and wasn't REALLY friends with Meth, Wu-tang and assorted other rap luminaries - but she was really cool and hot as the sun so we let it slide.

Then one day farking Biz Markie came in looking for her and we decided she just might have been telling the truth all along. Miss you Yolanda!

Liquid Swords is one of the best and most unique albums ever made. Without a doubt my favorite Wu album.

The last voice sample used in "Duel of the Iron Mic" was a forecast for rap:

At the height of their fame and glory, they turned on one another
Each struggling in vain for ultimate supremacy
In the passion and depth of their struggle
The very art, that had raised them through such Olympian heights was lost
Their technique, vanished
