That's (part of) the joke. It's from a George W. Bush quote.

When I was in High School, we had an 19 year old in my graduating class. He wasn't left back though. His mom thought it would be best if her two kids went to school together even though they were a year and half a part, so he just started school way older than everyone else.

From the comments:

"As am an alumnus and a sub there now. I have never once been unnerved. I often tell people that my two greatest sources of pride for my high school are the diversity and the opportunity afforded students."

Opportunities to mug a teacher?

Know how I know you DRTFA? It was a 19-year-old girl who tried to rob the teacher.

I always love how they say diversity like its a good thing, usually it leads to fights or set in feelings later in life.

Kids mock those that are different so diversity is never good for whomever is in the minority of the diversity.

It was a chick, she was probably PMSing.

Give her a week off and she'll return to school full of sugar and spice and everything nice.

Her. She.

She demanded money and attempted to remove one of the woman's bracelets

Since race wasn't mentioned, ya'll can assume whatever you wish.

Just in case any of you that are chastising subby for the atrocious headline grammar are serious, let me help with the reference you apparently missed:

in the comments section, the editor of the piece defends not stating the race.
before i give the summary, i agree there's no real need to state it. doesn't really add anything to the story.

THAT SAID:

it's owings mills
it's franklin high
it's a 19 year old female attacking a teacher

If it were white, this would have happened in Dundalk.

Is this one of those headlines where I actually need to read TFA to get the joke?

2012-05-02 06:23:18 PM
oh and yeah, as submitter, i was really shocked so far with how many of you totally missed the joke.

figured this headline style has been recycled enough that everyone would have caught on by now.

saw this on the Patch near the end of the day and thought:

"hope it goes green, love local baltimore county discussions"

kiss mah grits

Has anyone bothered to read the comments on TFA? There this whole sub-story in there about a Coach having to subdue a student because she was getting all stabby. Wonder if it's the same student...

If the editor defends not stating the race as it adds nothing to the story, that informs us without a doubt . The mystery is gone. Might as well just spell it out.

"Fried chicken, watermelon, Cadillac car...
We ain't as dumb as you think we is."

Ahhh... the joys of having a devoutly racist, Irish grandmother.

She also enjoyed telling us about three small african american boys with a varied skill set... who were in a peanut shell for some reason. And apparently... it was a secret that she wasn't supposed to be talking about... even though she did repeatedly.

She was a fun lady 'til the brain cancer got her.

RIP in white heaven Gramma.

If I was principal, I'd have her diploma typed up and her babby out of day care and in back her arms in 5 minutes. "Enjoy your voyage through life senior class blah, blah, blah, don't let the door hit you on the way out."

"We are dealing with [the student] appropriately following the Baltimore County Public Schools student handbook," he said. "...[It's] a one-time incident. As soon as we found out about it, we responded immediately."

How about dealing with it by calling the police?

Maybe deal with a 16 year old with the student handbook (maybe), but not an adult, particularly one who should have been out of high school a year ago.

There was a 20 year old girl in my HS class. It wasn't that she was held back so much as she quit, lost time, and came back. The reason? She came from a poor family and wanted to secure herself a husband before she graduated so she wouldn't end up living in a trailer park like her folks.

Last I heard she was on Husband # 3.
