I applaud your commitment to providing relevant and topical reference material in which to make your case, good Sir.

Well it's certainly possible that he was. Super Tecmo Bowl was not a game known for its even-handed distribution of ability for each player.

For example, Bob Nelson was just stupid in that game.
[www.gameinformer.com image 261x230]

You might ask, "who is Bob Nelson?" And you'd be justified in asking because Bob Nelson wasn't really an important player. But god dammit could Bob sack the QB in the game. He was essentially unblockable.

Word. I forget the exact player I always used on the Bears (Singletary?), but I always ran this guy from the LB position. Since every member of the offensive line was busy blocking one of my linemen, I could always wedge him through line for the sack. Unblockable, essentially, indeed. ;)

Well, yes the "incredibly large amount of the population" is kinda dumb, but if head injuries had anything to do with the suicide, then it could end up being the straw that broke the camel's back. The NFL is changing, but probably not fast enough.

No, just saying Duerson shot himself in the chest too, and telling why Dave did that. That haven't speculated on a reason for the suicide or method. Are mentioning him attempting suicide before by driving off a cliff.

12:29 PM PDT -- A rep for the Oceanside Police Department just spoke outside Seau's San Diego house, claiming Seau's body was initially discovered by Seau's girlfriend. Authorities responded, and found Seau's unconscious body inside a bedroom, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Paramedics attempted to revive Seau, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body is still inside the house.

The rep says investigators recovered a handgun on the scene. The case is being investigated as a suicide.

Seau's mother also spoke briefly -- and she was hysterical, crying to God, "Take me. Leave my son alone!"

no seriously, how about landing at the local air strip and drive down to his house, maybe save a bit in gas costs? maybe? huh?

is his house on the bay side or ocean side?

Oceanside has a small marina/harbor no real bay to speak of, his house must be just south of the pier (or near the pier)

huh? His house is in coronado, i was asking if it was on the san diego bay side or the side facing the pacific.

[narwhaler.com image 640x664]

His house is in Oceanside, on the Strand. So, facing the ocean. Just south of the pier.

If the cause that people are guessing is correct, then it's the same reason that people can still have anxiety and depression even when they seem to have it all: A messed up brain is a messed up brain. No amount of money, fame, etc. can fix that.

i have a deep sympathy for depressed people with regards to suicide, but somehow, i suspect that his body being in constant pain from the constant beatings it received during his career, including both concussions and other physical injuries he suffered during his play time.

i'm a hardcore migraineur, and believe me, I've thought of going all Pi on myself when I'm in the middle of a 6 week banger. If he was looking at another 30-40 years of excruciating pain along with increased risk of parkinsons (or already suffering from parkinsons), I don't think that the usual "depression" assumption holds water.

And for those of you saying that they're afraid that the NFL may have to change/go away. GOOD. It should. It causes permanent physical damage to an incredibly large amount of the population, from pee-wee league through the NFL.

How on earth could the NFL pass an OSHA inspection? Armored wankball should go the fark away and only be talked about with onions on our belts.

Oh shut the hell up. More people die by automobile every year than die by football. Should we ban cars too?

at least car manufacturers have been forced to install safety equipment that lessens the chance of injury instead of increasing it.

and you're making a slippery slope argument. i call logical fallacy.

I agree to an extent. The current base for a rookie is around $350k, veterans make a league minimum of about $500k on top of health insurance. I don't feel bad for them at all. Especially when the league AVERAGE salary is a 1 million.

But the guys that played in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s before free agency and the salaries boomed, I do think either better pensions or healthcare should be an issue.

Yes I know a big chunk of the lawsuits are from those guys, but when I hear about a guy who played in the late 90s early 2000s is in a lawsuit, I think it's stupid.

Unless you want your brain to be examined for signs of degeneration and TBI by Boston University's Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy like Dave Duerson.

/expect more chest shot suicides from former NFL players
