The problem is that there are meme's and internet ridicule that you can recover from, and then there is that which you can't. Fat emo guy is recoverable because frankly he was already older, being fat isn't really uncommon, and there is something about it which shows that maybe he wasn't even taking himself seriously at the time.

it is another thing if you become famous for actually being "stupid", slutty, vain, mean, whatever. Any time someone is seriously trying to be cool and isn't, that can really stick (a.k.a. Star Wars Kid, Icy Hot Stuntaz, Mr. Cool Ice, etc.).
