Pretty sure there was intiially speculation that it was some kind of sex game gone wrong.

Note that the words "killed in a criminal act" don't mean "was murdered". I get the sneaking suspicion someone's tiptoeing around the supposition that he was getting his freak on and forgot the safe word.

I guess the criminal wouldn't rest until he...

... bagged him a spy.

YEEEEAAAAAAAA

How big was the bag? Did they put him through a wood chipper??

Yes, I've always suspected a bit of foul play there...

Thank God for that. I was worried that hiding in gym bags was standard MI5 operating procedure.

Actually this is news...up till now the authorities have been claiming it was an autoerotic asphyxiation act and the guy zipped himself into the bag. No lie.

Reminds me of a story than ran about a year ago. Woman was found tied up in a garbage bag inside a dumpster full of water on a freezing night with a lethal dose of heroin in her body. The coroner wouldn't rule out suicide.

I wonder if smell was from the rotting corpse or the 6 month old unwashed jock strap?

Why do they keep calling him a spy when he wasn't one?

He just always traveled that way. Nothing to see here.

judging by some of the stuff they found in his apartment (closet full of women's clothing, orange wig etc) I tend to agree.

Since when does a six-month old need a jockstrap?

Unless the government did it, in which case it was most definitely "not" a criminal act.

She could have committed suicide, but was the girlfriend of a dealer who did NOT need cops going through his place with a fine-tooth comb. I mean, she's already dead when you got home, and nothing you do will make her any less dead. It's not your fault and you're not legally liable for that but there's all sorts of shiat consequences if the body is found at your place.

So, body goes in a garbage dumpster. Or preferably some place where it'll be less likely to be found. It's actually not all that farfetched of a scenario.

John Sawers, the head of MI6, said in a statement released following the verdict that he apologized "unreservedly" to the Williams family for the spy agency's failure.

Well that fixes everything. Nice to see they went all out and didn't just apologize reservedly.

Problem with that is that if she's a known associate of you, especially if it's known you two were in a relationship, the police could still come search the apartment or could at least require that you provide access to retrieve the deceased's property. The only thing it buys you, assuming that time is not critical, is that the drugs in her body are not in your residence. I would assume that either way, there could be time to clean the apartment out of all evidence of drugs and other contraband before the police investigate.

In some ways, I'd think that finding the OD girl in the apartment would help reduce suspicion that one actually caused it, while finding the body in the conditions under which it was discovered would cause the authorities to suspect foul play and to really turn the screws to find out. At home, she's just another unfortunate SOB that was hooked on drugs and screwed up and killed herself.

I think I heard on the radio he was a hacker for MI6. MI6 is the CIA, MI5 is the FBI..

And MI6 did not report his disappearance from work for five or six days.

What kind of funny business, who knows.

He was a hacker for GCHQ (the NSA, basically), on secondment to MI6. His line manager (at MI6) didn't try and contact him for a week, even although he had missed several meetings and hadn't turned up at the office at all. Hmmmmm.

We recently had the body of a youngish woman found in an alley, all wrapped up in carpet which was tied with string. They ruled out foul play....

/I think she ODd and her roomies got rid of her body to get rid of the evidence of their party.

Not really, the FBI are an LEA, MI5 officers have no power of arrest, the FBI also handle lots of things that MI5 do not. GCHQ ~= NSA and MI6 ~= CIA though.

Two different specialists attempted to recreate the feat hundreds of times without success.

Really? Hundreds of times? As in multiples of one hundred?

I sincerely doubt that for some reason.

"I say Jules, that man looks dead."
"Why yes he does Preston"
"Jules, do you think he would have crawled in that bag by himself and thrown himself into the bath?"
"No, no I don't Preston"
"Could you do that Jules?"
"No, I couldn't, could you Preston?"
"No, no I couldn't Jules"
"Well there you have it then We agree - He's dead and it couldn't have been by "Mis-adventure"

Hundreds pffft.

I like how the media has either tipped-toed round this subject or have not bothered with it at all. The most recent additional snippet of fact was that he had been found once before by his housekeeper handcuffed to the bed and had shouted for her for help because he couldn't free himself.

She and her husband thought the dude was in a sex game gone wrong, despite his denial in saying it was an experiment in escapology gone wrong.

The MI5/6 thing is just a smokescreen. Who would have thought that aspect of the case was more sexy than some dude getting his S&M and bondage kicks inside a locked bag?

Probably killed by a dagger of the mind. I bet some rumpled American detective could solve this, and I bet it has nothing to do with spies.
