jupiterkansas: My job is not to protect the safety of the public.

So that makes it OK to fark off at work? Well as long as you're the one making the rules, I guess it's all good.

Am I the only one who feels safer with the cops at home watching a movie?

When I was in high school and was a bagger at Cub Foods they would send me to go get shopping carts and after a couple trips I'd always go next door and get something to eat, or I'd go sit in my car and listen to music. And sometimes I'd drive off. At least once I went to the mall. No one ever questioned it when I came back an hour later with a row of carts. The good old days! Sadly I eventually turned 18, I guess these guys never did. Tucks everlasting all of them

Hmm, I guess that reading the newspaper and/or openly napping in the car on the side of the freeway was getting boring for these deputies?

No.

Now, my question is, was the area they were supposed to patrol a high-crime or low-crime neighborhood? I've only ever seen cops patrolling low-crime neighborhoods.

In this thread at least one person will confuse a job punching the clock and farking off at work and having a job where no one sees your time sheet

Differently than time clock punching.

FTFA: "An investigation revealed that the deputies responded to calls if dispatched, but did not initiate any law enforcement action for hours at a time."

Um, why did they fire these cops? This is exactly what cops SHOULD do.

Me and my buddy used to hunt deer at daylight in a patch of woods behind a stripmall. Mind you the town had a pop. of 20 plus thousand, not a hick town. Many times we'd park out back next to a cruiser in an empty parking lot where the cop never even woke up to two guys in camo carrying shotguns. Would've loved to see the cop's face when he woke up 3 feet away from an empty car that wasn't there when he fell asleep.

bukketmaster: I can't believe it.

Not that the cops were loafing on the job -that i can beleive - but that they actually got fired for it. I mean, getting a DUI doesn't do it, beating suspects doesn't do it, engaging in questionable shootings doesn't do it, but loafing.....that's what gets cops fired?

Don't get me wrong, I think all these shenanigans should be firing offenses, but I'd rather have lazy cops than crooked ones.

There is just NO PLEASING some people, I swear to f*cking god.

Cops don't get fired--biatching!

Cops get fired--MOAR BIATCHING!

I'm mad that these cops got fired for slacking on the job! They should have gotten fired for something worse! Put them back out there till they beat someone to death so we can fire them again! Will that make you happy?

This might be proof that management is part of the problem.

Taser-happy is OK, waiting for crime to come to them is not.

Hey, just think of it this way. These guys weren't out there being revenuers for the State giving out quota tickets.
Think about how many lives and families were saved from legal extortion and tyranny.

Now you are going to have four new gung ho newbies handing out traffic tickets and busting grandma for marijuana.

they sound like they are all close to retirement .

I think most of those other things could be said to have not happened at the job, the dui, or are part of the job that is made up by criminals to get out of crime, the beatings and shootings; but you can't excuse watching dvds while on the job.
