Where's the hero tag for cops actually getting fired?

Well, they could have been out beating minorities.

Tiny drop in a very, very big bucket.

I can't believe it.

Not that the cops were loafing on the job -that i can beleive - but that they actually got fired for it. I mean, getting a DUI doesn't do it, beating suspects doesn't do it, engaging in questionable shootings doesn't do it, but loafing.....that's what gets cops fired?

Don't get me wrong, I think all these shenanigans should be firing offenses, but I'd rather have lazy cops than crooked ones.

More interesting is the Link on the page to a story about Keith Olbermann being fired again. By Al Gore's Current TV:

"Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers," Gore and Joel Hyatt wrote in an "open letter" to viewers on Current's website. "Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it."

Don't forget having sex on your cruiser, or getting caught jerking off in your cruiser is perfectly fine.

Took an investigation between July and December? Catch them twice; the first was able to be forgiven as an error in judgment, but the second shows a pattern of behavior.

Seriously ?

The only thing that gets cops fired is screwing over other cops or stealing from the state. Beatings, theft, DUIs, etc etc no problem because it doesn't effect the other cops. Sitting around not working etc means the other guys have to pick up the slack and they will voice their displeasure. Stealing $$ from state coffers also pisses off the wrong type of people.

I would really like to point out the following:

The average years of service of these Deputies is 20. 20 years in law enforcement is retirement in most places, and with good reason. After 20 years they shouldn't be on the streets.

2012-05-02 04:56:01 PM
Meh, Gualtieri (mentioned in the article making lots of condemning statements) is up for re-election this year. He has signs everywhere in Pinellas County. This helps his "tough cop" image really well.

"If he's willing to fire lazy cops, imagine what he'll do to criminals!"

He's a shoo-in.

Different juristictions have different levels of tolerance for malfeasance. At least these guys responded to call outs, but it looks like otherwise they just goofed around all day (as opposed to patrolling).

"COPS is filmed on location with the men and women in law enforcement, provided they can be found and rousted to do their jobs. All suspects are proven free until shown to be enough of a hassle to pursue."

These guys are all in their early 40s and were hired in the late eighties early nineties. They hire 19 and 20 year old cops?

Funny, Current TV never seemed to have those values - Olbermann fit right in there and they used to embrace him. He must have pissed someone off.

and they will have no problem getting jobs at other PD's because it costs $ to train LEOs and they have experience.

and their SO's will get to keep their PBA badges that lets them drive like arseholes and get away with all sorts of infractions that would get you or i in trouble.

-have seen local LEOs sleeping in cruiser parked on side of road
--neighborhood meth lab is easily traced if they ever bothered to roll down a window and follow the aroma. they'll all act surprised when the place blows sky-high one day

I worked with a guy who didn't realize that he actually had to show up and do his job to keep it. It was a part time gig in college where we set our own hours and didn't have much oversight. I didn't see him for a few months and figured he'd moved on or was fired because he was always really lazy about his duties. One day I bumped into him at the office where we submitted our time sheets. Sure enough his was on top and he'd been submitting more hours than anyone else. Almost all of those hours overlapped with when others and I had worked and they hadn't seen him either. His absence became a bit more official after that.

2012-05-02 05:07:17 PM
...and then what happened?

2012-05-02 05:12:19 PM
Yeah, well, the real outrage here is the article linked on the right, about the woman who claimed her huge breasts interfered with her roadside sobriety test - picture is of just her face. C'mon, guys. If you're gonna be prurient, DO IT RIGHT.

Hobo Jr.: But I were to steal that amount of money, I would be in jail. This is fraud and should be treated as such.

A college in Texas actually did press charges against members of their campus police department for filling out false time sheets.. Normally they only get suspended or fired at worse. Police have strong unions.

Those other things are just part of the job. They're doing something to earn their pay.

Don't get me wrong, I think all these shenanigans should be firing offenses, but I'd rather have lazy cops than crooked ones.

You too. That makes three of us so far in this thread.

On the other hand, if a locality is so low-crime that it takes an official investigation to notice cops goofing off, doesn't that mean they can save money by laying off some cops or moving them to part-time?

That's only one step lower than busting somebody for drinking one beer in the middle of an otherwise empty public park.

What do we pay cops for anyway? To show up after you're shot and take a report, in between getting freebies from hookers and playing Angry Birds?

On an autumn night in Baltimore on St. Paul Street in November 1994 I was beat half to death by four roving "fag-bashers" wielding 2x4s. After I picked myself up and staggered the two blocks to the Emergency Room I noticed three cop cars parked in front of a convenience store and four cops (two with hands on their weapons) harassing a nicely-groomed middle aged black man who'd been politely asking passing college students for spare change. When I stood there battered and bleeding to holler at them about how I just got attacked while they were doing that, that I could describe the "perps" and that they might still catch them, I was told to shut up, they're busy. Obviously harassing a black citizen is more important. Then I told them I would be at the ER across the street or maybe admitted and I wished to file a report when they were finished doing their real job ("my name is DAVID *****, spelled *-*-*-*-*"), but I didn't hear a peep from them for the three days I was there. Is there any wonder I hate cops?

Hassling old black guys is their job. Catching violent criminals is too much trouble.

(Maybe I shouldn't be guzzling Old Overholt so early in the evening, but I only had a few ounces left in the "fifth" and now I can recycle the empty.)
