The general state of the 4th estate is lamentable. I just recently heard a clip from Woodward talking about how the up-and-coming generation of would-be journalists in high school and college today think that all journalistic research can be done on the internet and how he thinks that's just terrible.

I think that's terribly myopic of him. Most journalists don't even do that NOW, they just repeat press releases and run with their list of published talking points.

The reason Stewart keeps winning journalism awards is that even though they're pulling it together for a comedy show, his staff actually takes the time to research what they're reporting on and then challenge the untruths, inconsistencies, and straight-up lies.

Journalists: THIS is the kind of research YOU should be doing. You should be calling them ALL, Democrat and Republican alike, out on the carpet every time they throw down with a bit of absurdity. I've heard the whine "But if we challenge them we won't get access"... wah, Stewart and his staff don't get "access" either, and yet they're the ones doing some of the best actual journalism out there.

If bin Laden had died under Bush's presidency, his body would have been brought back and propped up in a coffin for republicans holding guns to take photo ops with like he was some old timey western bank robber.

Then it probably would have made a tour of the country to be shown off in person, stopping at every republican representative and senators' district.

So vote Republican?

In my case, it's leave the president part of the ballot blank, unless it's someone I can vote for, like Nader in 2000, 2004, and 2008.

As he says, "If you vote for the lesser of two evils, you end up with the evil of two lessers."

This election proves his point.

On behalf of the 4-thousand plus troops killed in Iraq, thanks for voting for Nader in 2000.

Pretty much. Hell, when he did his flight suit photo op, it took every bit of restraint for Sean Hannity to not start jacking it on camera.

3. don't follow up, ask another question

The economy is better than it was four years ago. Unemployment is better than it was four years ago. It sounds like you're upset with the Democrats for not fixing things quickly enough.

If anything I'm upset with them for having no backbone and for allowing things to get this bad. The reason it's such an insane atmosphere is because the democrats are operating under the false assumption that there's any sense of decorum left. They need to sack up and start calling the republicans on their bullshiat so we can start having real debates about actual issues.

For reasons already pointed out in this thread. Politicians are allowed to spout whatever they want, most of it lies, on national news programs and nobody calls them on any of it. They're afraid of losing access if they do. They're also afraid of losing access if they don't appear to offer balanced coverage of issues, which is great in theory but what it leads to is a legitimization of truly retarded statements and ideas. Not every issue has two sides of equal weight and truth.

Then there's the elections. Dear bog where to start? When the best the opposition party can come up with is a robotic sociopath corporate raider, a crazy-eyed homophobic shrew, a woman-hating closet case who can't stop thinking about hot sweaty man love, a doddering, senile pseudo-anarchist, the token "hey, we know a black guy so we're not racist, okay?", a fat, womanizing, loathsome man-baby and George W Bush ver. 2.0 You're in some serious trouble as a country. Oh, and Huntsman, who was actually subdued and sane, which is why he lost so early. Every day of the last six months or so these morons have played a game of one-derpsmanship until only one is left standing.

Obama has his flaws but seems like an otherwise reasonable human being who actually believes in his ideas but if he's reelected there's no way in hell the Republicans won't hamper, obstruct or otherwise do everything in their power to make sure nothing gets done. I swear rbs liberals have a filter that only allows imagined arguments to reach their ears.

Every pundits I've seen has given credit for the raid. They are arguing against obamas actions after.

1. Outing the seal team 6. Many seals believe this is why the chinook with seal team 6 was shot down, leading to 22 deaths.

2. Spiking the football. A year ago Obama stated he didn't want to use obl as a trophy... Yet when it becomes politically expedient he does.

3. The strawman attack on romney. Romney clarified the statement Obama is using a mere few days later. Obama knows this but ignores it. This is what the left accused brietbart of doing.

These criticisms are not of the raid, but of actions after. Seriously, it helps to not be in a frothy rage when listening to contrarian views, you can hear the actual arguments instead of the straw men the left lives on.

It's not so much a "this is what would happen if...", it's more a "this is what Mitt Romney explicitly stated he would do (or not do as is the case here)..."

During the 2008 campaign, the candidates were asked if they would order a strike inside Pakistan if there was actionable intelligence that Al Qaeda (or possibly OBL specifically, forgot exact wording) was there. Obama said he would and the entire right, including Romney, lost their shiat over it. Then when that exact situation comes up, Obama did exactly what he said he would and now Republicans are trying to play hindsight hero because everything worked out.

They are goddamn cowards.

The pundits reacted in utter silence. You can't show clips of silence. At least, you can't with clean editing and not looking even more dickish by putting a still shot up.

I don't think the bin Laden ad was even much of a cheap shot. For fark's sake, it was restrained in every way compared to what it could have been and what it would have been if the parties were switched. This is why Obama shouldn't pull his punches in this campaign: even when he does, the conservatives act like he was carrying brass knuckles.
