And when they're done, they'll get an Alzheimer's drug on the market.

Then they can start work on that Alzheimer's drug.

Pfizer's Alzheimers drug will probably not be a big seller. It has a pretty unpleasant side effect profile and its still not known just how effective it is in treating Alzheimers. Clinical trials on neurodegenerative disorders are long, painful, and very expensive. Its a huge risk for Pfizer.

The other two in arthritis and anti-coagulants have very stiff competition. For something like an anti-coagulant, the majority of your sales come from Medicare reimbursements and Medicare is going to ask why they should pay for a $2000 drug when something like Wafarin or Coumadin will work just as well. Pfizer has to show that their drug is pretty spectacular in order to justify the expense.

Bottom line is that none of these drugs is likely to replace the huge revenue bomb Pfizer is losing with Lipitor going off patent. Expect more layoffs and golden parachutes from upper management. I actually expect Pfizer to be acquired within the next 5-10 years.

That's a pfarking shame! As much as I find big pharma reprehensible, they are a necessary evil, and I hate to see people lose their jobs.

I missed the plural "drugs" in the headline and thought, "holy cats, they're just going to shoot the old folks and call it medicine! Brilliant!"
