Buck's 1,000th MLB win.
Brian Matusz's first win since June 6, 2011.
Nick Johnson's first MLB hit since May 5, 2010.
Orioles' first win against Yankees since Sept. 8, 2011.

So yeah, a few storylines in this one.

If anyone wants a commemorative Franklin Mint plate or beer stein from when Cal Ripken Jr. passed Gehrig's record I have both that I will sell.
Also a pretty cheesy looking baseball with his face on it.

A 2 year hitting drought?

He was injured for most of it.

He's not an everyday player. He was on the Yankees in 2010, but had a wrist injury in May or June and was out for the rest of the season. I know he didn't play at all in 2011 (well not on the ML team, he probably did rehab or triple A). I believe he only played in 7 or 8 games so far this year. I could look up the exact amount of games he's played in that time span, but I'm quite lazy. I'll just guess and say 12 ML games. I'm not going to guess the # of plate appearances. That's something you can look up at baseball referance..

This game made me feel good. The record vs. the Yanks was getting depressing:
L6-2
L5-4
L6-4
L2-1

Besides that first game, the could have won every one of those games, but they stranded a ton of players in scoring position. This game they were hitting when it counted. Well let me revise that last statement. Kuroda played lights out in the 2-1 game and so did Hammel. The only difference was Hammel's only mistake cost him the game.

If memory serves, this was his 9th game of the season & got him up to 30 official at-bats. He did have a walk before last night's game.

The O's pitching has the second best ERA in the AL so far this year.

Last year they had the worse ERA in all of baseball.

Pitching, defense and 3 run home runs was Earl Weaver's mantra.

Well, 1 out of 3 ain't bad.

Markakis, Wieters, Hardy and Jones are great on defense. The rest of the team not so much. But Weaver's probably liking what he's seen so far. Of course he's probably also cursing at his TV screen whenever they make a mistake as well.

Reynolds and Davis at first and third are so bad, it clouds my judgment on the rest of the team. Reynolds needs to play first. . .for some reason he has played excellent defense at the not so hot corner.

As a Yankees fan, I'm more concerned with the apparent fact that every Phil Hughes start is an automatic loss.

/"E"duardo Nunez certainly didn't help matters in this game either
//sucks when both your corner outfielders are out and the only one in the lineup hitting is Jeter

As an Orioles fan, that's how we felt about Matusz. So, thanks Phil Hughes!

My other concern?
This Just For Men ad waiting to happen is the one that's going (to have to) save us.

Granderson is mashing, too. but that's it. Cano and Teixeira are slugging below .400 and A-Rod's only at .419. No power at all so far from the 3-4-5 guys

In a bit of non sequitur, the funniest part of the radio broadcast on Monday was Fred Manfra accidentally calling Granderson "the Grandyman" and then immediately apologizing.

The worst part about working in bars a few nights a week is that I don't get to hear Fred get giddy with silliness as much as I would like. He's no Jon Miller, but he is a lot of fun to listen to.

Orioles 5, Yankees 0. First series win in New York since Sept 2010. First loss for Ivan Nova since June 3, 2011.

Even though I know better, I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic.

/Nick Johnson had two more hits.

Not taking anything away from Arrieta, who pitched a gem, but the Yankees are seriously depleted right now. Not that THAT matters much when the guys who aren't hurt aren't hitting anyway.

/oh look, 4th place
//disgusted

Difference being, as a Yankees fan you know that they'll do whatever it takes to get hot in the second half & get to the postseason anyway.

As an Orioles fan, I know it's only a matter of time before the inevitable collapse.

/Would still be happy with 75 wins.
