So?

You can find pieces of the Berlin wall all over the place, and lets not forget that people died trying to cross it, too.

What about all the blood spilled in Jerusalem? Every grain of sand there was probably bled on by someone famous. Let's start exporting the sand out at a penny a grain.

I would if I was that kind of person. It makes sense.

Personally, I gave away my only copy of the 9/12 issue of the newspaper to the first person who asked because I don't save newspapers and similar mementos of things I wasn't involved with. It's just not in my blood.

Now antiques on the other hand. I love the idea that one of my favorite kitchen knives was used by my grandmother and now I've got it. Ideally, since I have so many knives, my kids will eventually have it if I can scrape together enough dough to get married here soon. That's the kind of history I like.

I'd never buy a piece of someone's house unless it was the whole house itself and I was able to move in.

A bit of hyperbole there, but seriously how much WOULD it cost to ship a brick from Pakistan to the U.S.? Can't be cheap. 10 bucks? 20?

This. In 1988 I visited West Berlin and carved out my own personal souviner from the wall. At least when I did it, it was illegal, and I'm pretty sure my picture is in some defunct Stasi file somewhere.

You have to consider at least a couple of differences.

A piece of the Berlin Wall, which was historically significant for decades, is evidence that it has fallen. The motivation of a buyer is probably very different. (Perhaps the CIA is tracking buyers).

It's unlikely anyone will build a shrine to the Berlin Wall, but for a dollar you could build one to obl (initials not worthy of being capitalized).

People have been hawking pieces of the cross Jesus was killed on for
centuries. They've also been doing the same thing with bone chips of

Religious pilgrims meant money, and most monastery chapels and cathedrals in the Middle Ages had relics for people to come see or pray by. It wasn't unheard of for less than scrupulous monks to steal relics from other monasteries.

That being said, there are enough pieces of the "true cross" to make a forest, and the Shroud of Turin is possibly a very clever fake.

I'd like to make a display piece w/ a 12" figure of GW Bush, dressed in his 'mission accomplished' flight suit, standing on a piece of rubble from the WTC firing a little M-16. On the other side there is a 12" figure of Bin Laden, positioned on a brick from his old house shot up.

I'll sell them for 3 low monthly installments of $89.97 (strict limit of one per household) to fine amurikans and listeners to the EIB radio network. Order now, avoid disappointment and future regret.
