Deftoons:
And there we have it. Your awful logic finally is revealed - Hydra was right, this is no different that those Fark liberals when they whine about those "Fark Independents®" who then vote Republican. You are just the other side of the coin, pissing and moaning about how the drug war is screwed up and needs to be changed...and then you vote Democrat.

Awful logic? I am more concerned about the environemnt than I am about legalized weed or the war on drugs, hence voting for Paul, on top of being a pointless gesture, would also send the wrong symbolic message.

I will repeat.

I like the EPA a hell of alot more than having the fed not worry about weed. So Paul being elected wouldn't be a "net good" in my book, or the book of anyone who gives a shiat about the environment.

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote to say fark the environment, fark women's right to choose, and to a lesser extent, fark civil rights. Not worth weed in my book.

Hale-Bopp: Wrong again. While I don't ignore the other great issues, this one is the greatest and has a ripple effect across nearly all issues in one way or another. We fix this issue and the rest falls into place over time. Again, do the research

He has got you there, "do the research".

Once we end the war on drugs it will usher in a new age of humanity, not just in the US, but in the world. All other problems and earthly concerns will evaporate leading the world on a path of enlightenment.

/I am sure you know this is sarcasm, but i need to point out even with a Paulite as pres we will still have the war on drugs at a state level. And given his stance on corporations and free speech that money will begin pouring in at a state level and it will just be stepped up there. But keep pretendingt hat is the most important issue, not what allowed cause the war on drugs in the first place.

LavenderWolf: take home lesson: Don't hang with dealers big enough to attract DEA attention.

Wow, you know absolutely nothing about drugs.

Are you suggesting that the DEA would bother with any of my sources? The local cops might - maybe, but it's highly unlikely.

This wasn't a small-time pot bust.

When I was in jail, I got my ass kicked by another girl and was placed in medical "ad-seg" which is short for Administrative Segregation (READ: Solitary confinement).

It was horrible. I was in there for six days, supposedly for my own safety. Since it was the medical ward and they really rarely had anyone in med ad-seg, I was often forgotten. I missed many meals. You are only allowed out for 30 minutes a day, and I went two days without being let out. They also forgot to turn on the lights one day for an entire day.

It was a horrible experience.

Dimensio: SubBass49: A lot of UCSD students are spoiled jerkoffs that do retarded shiat and run to mommy & daddy to pull some strings when they get caught. Go fark yourself kid. No one just happens to be visiting people with that kind of stash. You are correct. Mr. Chong "deserved" to be deprived of food and water for five days and to have his life endangered. The Drug Enforcement Agency engaged in no wrongdoing in nearly killing, through neglect, an individual who ultimately was never charged with any crime and thus Mr. Chong deserves no compensation for his alleged inconvenience.

Trolling maybe....but yeah he has a point.

AS has been stated before ... POWs usually had access to water. This kid went FIVE DAYS WITHOUT WATER.

The average human dies after only 3 days without water...

It's entertaining to watch idiots who, despite things like the Eighth Amendment, insist that if you commit a crime, no matter how trivial, you deserve whatever happens to you up to and including death.

Authoritarianism: It's not just for Nazis anymore.

Deftoons: LordJiro: Itstoearly: GAT_00: Ah, some quality crime control.

Hey now, you're a diehard liberal. Be proud of how big and powerful your government is. Heck, you should be saying how the DEA should be immune to the law, because it could get in the way of it's power.

Because liberals are so well-known for their support of the drug war, right?

I guarantee you most of those liberals who claim to be against the drug war will vote for Obama again in the elections - FYI, he has extended the drug war and has appointed a drug czar. From my experience, whenever I press them on the issue, the typical answer I get is "Welp! Got more important shiat to do, like provide health care!" Meanwhile, crap like this continues on in our country and other countries where the drugs come from, like Mexico and Columbia. This isn't some low-priority social injustice we're talking about here. We need to start voting for a pro-legalization President and start making a change on this.

Well, the Republicans (Nixon) started the "war on drugs," so we can't expect any help there. And the Republican nominee is a Mormon.

So who is this "pro-legalization President" to which you refer? The unelectable Ron Paul? Martin Sheen? Cheech and Chong?

SpectroBoy: Deftoons: Voting for the lesser of two evils (in this case, voting for Obama or Mitt) is throwing one's vote away. Voting with a clean conscience is an actual vote.

How do you figure that?

Doesn't voting for the lesser of two evil help prevent the GREATER of two evil from winning? And isn't that important to you?

Sounds more like "I don't like my choices so I am taking my ball and going home" to me.

Really? Some folks cannot believe that law enforcement could possibly be this incompetent. Well yes, they can.

/interestingly, often the same folks who believe the very worst of "government" give law enforcement a complete pass.

And some folks (especially on fark) believe any story that is anti-cop. Really? It's not possible this tool ate his own meth because he knew he was facing more charges, refused food and water because he wanted a paycheck, and wound up in the hospital because of his own stupidity. Well yes, it is.

This diatribe was cute to read, but unfortunately for you, the DEA admitted to everything that the kid claims happened to him.

Hey dickface, like I've already posted, the linked article did not have any of that info. On fark, there are two consistent things that occur:
1. Fark posters love a good cop bashing thread.
2. They are skeptical in almost every thread about what' being reported.

Cop hating threads will always win out though, and if you read the linked story without the DEA info, it looks like a poorly made Lifetime movie of the week. If this wasn't a cop hating thread, you are your brethren would be just as skeptical. And I already clarified that since they admitted it, people will likely be losing their jobs. Whoever was supposed to check in on holding cells royally screwed up.

Deftoons: LordJiro: Obama is a center-right corporatist at best, and that sucks. But he's currently the best option on the field. And until a viable liberal party organizes itself enough to get any sort of power, the Democrats are going to continue to be the lesser of two evils.

Voting lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. I dunno, maybe try to vote outside the lesser of two evils bullshiat for once? Or stay in your safety cubby hole and continue this charade. Well done.

semiotix: ...he was increasingly worried throughout the days he spent in a 5 ft. by 10 ft. cell...

Okay.

In his desperation, he said he was forced to drink his own urine.

I see.

"...I hallucinated by the third day..."

Figures.

Chong said he lost roughly 15 pounds during the time he was alone...

That so?

His lawyer confirmed that Chong ingested a powdery substance found inside the cell. Later testing revealed the substance was methamphetamine...

Mmhmm.

After days of being ignored, Chong said he tried to take his own life by breaking the glass from his spectacles with his teeth and then carving "Sorry mom," on his wrists.

Okay then.

He said nurses also found pieces of glass in his throat, which led him to believe he ingested the pieces purposefully.

Interesting.

He spent three days in the intensive care unit at Sharp Hospital and his kidneys were close to failing...

Uh-huh.

The incident also caused Chong to miss his midterms at UCSD.

Got a link? That sounds like punitive damages, which is to say, the DEA would be 'punished' by having to fork over the money. I don't have a problem with this. Are you suggesting that you (or anyone else) in this situation would consider a "Hey, sorry about the whole 'almost killing you by forgetting you were in one of our holding cells' thing, our bad." sufficient? Besides, the drug cops and their agencies have spent decades 'making examples' of people, let them be the example made, for once.

Also, FTFA:

Chong says he finally gave up on screaming for help, and eventually tried to kill himself with the glass from his spectacles and drank his own urine, sure he would die there.

While the writing in atrocious, think about that for a second. The guy was screaming for help. For days! That doesn't merit a lawsuit? What would?

The drug war, by definition, is a war against the US. ALL DEA agents, along with all other local, state, and federal officers involved in the drug war are traitors.

FFS, it's simple - also the first article that appears says he was only there for 4 days, not 5. Never believe people when they tell you shiat like that.

ParaHandy: As a taxpayer, I think we should have the federal government locking up more minorities for victimless crimes.

Question for the right-wing bootlickers: if healthcare is a matter of states rights, why aren't drug laws?

Can't click the smart button on my cell.

Will have to remember that one.

BTW...dude is now suing for $20 million...so yeah...scumbag assessment was spot on. Fark him.

How about $500,000 to $1million, plus all medical expenses paid? I'd see that as reasonable. Guy could buy a brand new home, cash up front. Then he and his buddies could run their drug empire from a new location.

liam76: So your only real choice* is Obama or Romney. And As much as I dislike how Obama handled it, Romeny would be worse.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

I'd like to see some of the people calling this guy a puss or stupid for eating his glasses or eating the meth get locked in a dark 5x10 room and left there. No water, no food, no toilet, no comfy bed to just sleep through it all, no idea if you were going to ever hear or see another human before your body succumbed and you died. Just the smell of your own shiat and piss to keep you company.

Let them out after a mere 24 hours. Bet they'd be farking blubbering and scarred for life.

Now now, he was able to hear people in the other room. Frankly, I think that they should be able to hear all the people outside the cell. It'd make not actually being able to see anybody else all the more torturous.

/you know, like what happened to this kid

flatt: See, smoking pot can kill you.

I have to admit, this was desperately-needed humor after having read the article. The line about him carving "sorry mom" into his arm and the glass in his throat made me cry.

Do we need to be reminded that this is all happening because cannabis--on of the plants that hundreds of millions of people believe that God created along with the planet--was determined by man to be one of God's "accidents?" It makes you wonder just what, exactly, the prohibitionists are smoking.

Tobacco.

The federally approved, "God's Plant"

Or

Alternatively, Meth, "God's Urine"

FarkLiberty: Tobacco.

The federally approved, "God's Plant"

Not that approved of anymore. Sure they love the taxes, but they're not in bed anymore, same profit from, but without the same association. Once wingnuts convinced the public that tobac companies were marketing towards kids and adding "chemicals" as a conspiracy to fuel addiction, the gov' distanced themselves. It's about image, but only because the money isn't good enough.

Gov still sleeps with the MPAA, for example, but with the craziness that is copyright math and the courts finding more and more against the MPAA, that relationship is going to start to slip soon too.

Things are getting to where the move more rapidly now, before long pot will be legal, then it will get shunned by "liberals", fall out of grace, and end up where tobacco is now, villified and taxed by a ratio of hundreds and begin to become unaffordable to the common man.

I say "liberal" because they care about their own liberty, but not so much for anyone else's. Yet another example of how the far left warps back around to being almost conservative/authoritarian.

Liberty and freedom for all, except those that offend my very precious sensibilities, they can fark off, maybe even go to prison, so as to not infringe on my liberty and freedom.

Heavy taxation != dissaproval

Because if you're using that metric, earning income is disapproved of. If you're not going to get arrested for using it, then it's approved of. Which was the point of my post.

Aside from that, I totally agree with the rest of your post

comes down to a difference in one's view of the concept of approval.

I thought you meant it more along the lines of a prideful display(ie a seal of approval in advertising "Do it, it tastes great and everyone approves"), not simply "eh, whatever, we're fine with that, that is ok".
I hope that makes sense, I'm too lazy to go find samples of the different uses so i'm spit-balling here.

As for price...unaffordable was preceded by the operative words, beginning to.
Cost isn't prohibitive yet to large numbers of the populace, but it's on the way. Banning smoking everywhere is sating them for now, but it'll come around again when they stop gaining ground on that front.
