unlikely: Rincewind53: There's no goddamn way they deliberately almost killed a guy for smoking pot

Have you not been paying attention to the increasing level of psychotic ideological hatred we're seeing from law enforcement around the country?
The surprise is they didn't just shoot him.

Funny how that happens when you militarize civilian police in the wake of a terrorist attack.
And theres no way, ever, that this sort of thing will be undone.

Once you make the cops paramilitary, they will stay such. Who will ever have the political will to see this sort of thing done away with?

If a democrat tries to defang the cops "socialist! Soft on crime! America hater! Not a friend to the unions!"

And a republican would never *dream* of reforming police of taking away some of their powers on ideological reasons.

What, that both of you don't understand anatomy and physiology very well? 3 days with no water while under stress is about the normal limit before renal failure begins. If that cell had been hot, he might not have made it at all.

Something ain't right. Many somethings actually.

I've heard of people getting busted for smoking in public at 4/20 rallies. But do you think the DEA is going door to door for causal smokers? Not even the local fuzz, the DEA? DEA go after dealers & growers. And yes, the little old lady with 2 plants in garden for her glaucoma counts as a grow house. And there any other cases of the DEA going in to a house for a personal use case?

And if he could hear people, then they could most likely hear him. They didn't forget about him, they put him somewhere and left him there.

And look at the guy--he's a pot head. He was probably in the room for 20 minutes, had some flashback, and freaked out. I bet the radiation from microwaving babies has totally fried his brain.

But seriously, I'm no fan of the DEA, but this story doesn't add up.

And to the folks saying no way a DEA agent would risk the lawsuit, why do you think they care? Fine, sue the agency for millions, doesn't come out of the agent's pocket.

And if they get fired, they just go in to private security and double heir salary overnight.

How do you figure that?

Doesn't voting for the lesser of two evil help prevent the GREATER of two evil from winning? And isn't that important to you?

People injured or killed on arrest when a tazer malfunctions or someone's head is banged on the concrete too hard. A few more are likely misplaced or harmed while in prison.
There are probably dozens of inadvertent deaths caused by the DEA alone, and its not unusual. A police department in any major city probably has a casualty count just as big.

And then the DEA paid for his hospital visit out of the kindness of their hearts?

Really? Some folks cannot believe that law enforcement could possibly be this incompetent. Well yes, they can.

/interestingly, often the same folks who believe the very worst of "government" give law enforcement a complete pass.

And some folks (especially on fark) believe any story that is anti-cop. Really? It's not possible this tool ate his own meth because he knew he was facing more charges, refused food and water because he wanted a paycheck, and wound up in the hospital because of his own stupidity. Well yes, it is.

That said...

"The 24-year-old University of California, San Diego, engineering student was swept up as one of nine suspects in an April 21 drug raid that netted 18,000 ecstasy pills, other drugs and weapons."

Go fark yourself kid. No one just happens to be visiting people with that kind of stash. That's a MAJOR operation, and the DEA does surveillance for several day MINIMUM before busting one up like that. You are correct. Mr. Chong "deserved" to be deprived of food and water for five days and to have his life endangered. The Drug Enforcement Agency engaged in no wrongdoing in nearly killing, through neglect, an individual who ultimately was never charged with any crime and thus Mr. Chong deserves no compensation for his alleged inconvenience.
